Vardan Ovsepian, piano, a native of Yerevan, Armenia, received early training as a nationally awarded classical pianist in the top conservatories of Yerevan, Tallinn, and Helsinki. A full scholarship brought him to Berklee College of Music where he quickly garnered favor and frequent performance invitation from Boston's elite, -Hal Crook, Tony Malaby, and Mick Goodrick, to name a few. Ovsepian, Toriyama, and Davis record for Fresh Sound Records.
Take Toriyama, drums/percussion, enjoyed tremendous success in Japan as a founding member of Vision, a hit Japanese rock band of the 90's. Soon after his 1993 Berklee arrival he became first call in top circles of both Boston and New York. His performing and recording credits include Hal Crook, Dave Liebman, Jerry Bergonzi, Ravi Coltrane, Bob Brookmeyer, George Garzone, Tony Malaby, Jack Wilkins, Chuck Loeb, Jimmy Heath, Danilo Perez, and Chick Corea.
Tim Miller has recently appeared on a recording featuring bass legend Eddie Gomez and renowned saxophonist George Garzone. Recently, the University of North Texas Guitar Department invited Miller and his trio to perform and give a Master class on guitar and improvisation. The trio also appeared at the International NAMM show as featured artists. His latest release "Sides" proves to be another exciting collaboration of original young artists that leaves a fresh sound resonating with honesty and soul.

Soft, minimalist covers with an edge
author: ChrisThis is a great disk full of mellow covers with some very hard hitting musicianship. Check out the cover of Message in a Bottle.

'Re-grooving" a variety of well-known and respected songs of jazzy pop pioneer, Sting, and the classical masterpieces of Brahms and Tchaikovsky, Joshua Davis and Vardan Ovsepian have unleashed a sophisticated mixture of reinventions and interpretations that only add to the draw and magic of these selected works. With a precise and carefully-measured ability to retain the original core of these works, knowing where and when to tweak with their vision and originality, these guys bring a fourth dimension to these treasures that reflects highly on their respect for the composers as well as their trust of the creative process, always a spectrum and never a defined point.
A Beautiful Recording Start to Finish
author: Marcus FullerWith Squashua, Joshua Davis has accomplished an amazing goal of creating an improvisational record that both pop and classical fans can enjoy. Lush harmonic textures abound throughout the entire record. The supporting cast is stellar, particularly Take Toriyama and his masterful integration of various world percussion instruments with his drum set. For the Sting fan, the classical fan, the jazz fan, or someone who is venturing into improvised music for the first time, this beautiful recording will yield hours of listening pleasure.
