Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Fizzy Orange Pop.

Brand Spankin' Blue.

Think Ongie. Ongie pop! Ongie pop for now people!

This melodist, producer-arranger, singer and multi-instrumentalist
sacrifices countless lonely hours in his egg-cartoned studio... for you.

All for you.

In the midst of recording "Lovefest", Joe played bass and accordion with Aimee Mann.
That's right - Aimee Mann (Mrs. Michael Penn).

Also produced loads of bands.

And lovingly wrote another song or two, thinking only of you.

It's all for you. Only you.

You know who you are.

And did we mention hooks? Oh yes...

  • Certaily Solid

If 'Critical Darling' is 'Moondance', this one is 'Tupelo Honey', I guess. Honestly I couldn't think of a better sort of witty analogy... eh, you know what I mean, here: I can't say that I think any less of this album than I do of his newest, but I find that this one flows, track-by-track, much more smoothly than 'CD', which contrarily contains a multitude of exceptional standouts. If you haven't heard his stuff yet, I suggest it without hesitation; like the little intro says, it is almost a "tasty" kind of music, very colorful and ROBUST, whatever that means. I say buy it, man, be bold... you already know the songs on that Beach Boys' Greatest comp, anyway...

  • Joe Ongie will do right to anyone interested in Beatles-influenced Southern Cali
    author: Jason Damas

Chalk one up for the D.I.Y. aesthetic. Southern California café owner and former Aimee Mann sideman Joe Ongie crafted Lovefest largely by himself, on his own dollar, and sold and distributed it himself. But while it retains the charm of a homemade record crafted far from the influence of the music industry, Ongie's songwriting is sharp and his production clean and accessible. While he loathes the comparison, most of the material here falls into the sunnier side of Eels territory by way of Jon Brion, and that's quite a compliment since it puts Ongie in good company with some of the best other one-man band types around.

BRILLIANT Beatlesque pop. Amazing songs in orchestrated glory. A must-hear.

  • WoW!! Don't miss this one. Top-rate pop from an expert craftsman!
    author: Jim R.

Don't look now, but Joe Ongie is shaping up to be a master pop craftsman before our very eyes. No wait... I think he's already there, after expertly piecing together this collection of tunes, well-fitted arrangements, and sharp production. Everything is complementing and elevating the songs themselves. A great accomplishment! And folks, these are some of the finest, shiney new songs you're going to hear for a long time. I don't normally think much about this aspect of recordings, but I find the sequence of the tracks unusually appealing... each song fitting nicely in its position relative to those around it. And there's a lot of variation in style, tempo, etc., so all the more impressive. Did I mention that I highly recommend Lovefest?!!

  • Pop music perfection

A dozen million dollar songs for 10 bucks...this cd will be stuck in your player for a long, long time: great vocals, intelligent songwriting and addictive melodies.

  • My Favorite Things
    author: Lani Anzivino

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, Joe Ongie's Lovefest and finely tuned strings, these are a few of my favorite things. I've listened to this CD at least 100 times, and yet I continue to discover something new with each spin. It's lovely in its simplicity while brilliant in its complexity. The catchy tunes will grab you in the beginning, then references to Houdini, Mona Lisa and Sysiphus will keep you coming back for more. I'm having a lovefest with Lovefest!

  • A great pop album!
    author: Jack Gubanc

At a time when mainstream music seems to be avoiding great melodies and lyrics, this album emphasizes both. Joe Ongie has created a disc that rivals many of the great Pop/rock albums of the 1970s and 1980s.

  • Ideal
    author: Anfernee

This CD is ideal as a martial aid. The hole is just the right size and is perfectly centered. I would recommend this CD to anyone.

  • "Lovefest" is a hookfest!
author: Lou Canova - Latham, Ny

What can I say? This guy's got it! The catchy melodies, the brilliant arrangements, and hooks! Yikes! This CD's got more hooks than a tackle box! Bravo! A superb effort... can't wait for his next one, "Lovefest 2: Electric Boogaloo."

  • Brilliant and Inventive
    author: Kurtis Gentile

This CD is a masterpiece. Ongie has written an entire album of exquisite pop songs with intelligent, insightful and witty lyrics. His choice of instruments on this album is inventive and unique. Listen for the pump organ in “Two Marys” and “Nevertheless”. In the manner of Paul McCartney, Todd Rundgren, Sly Stone, and Jon Brion, Ongie comfortably wears the label of singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist. “Lovefest” is full of surprises – all of them good. If you are a fan of well-constructed, original pop music with stunning arrangements, look no further. Buy the damn thing. Help the boy pay the bills.

  • .... A beautiful marriage of poetry and song entwined in a true Masterpiece....

  • Hook-laden funk-pop-a-roll from a talented musician and songwriter
    author: Alan Z

The third effort from multi-talented artist Joe Ongie is full of memorable, stylistically diverse tunes. You'll be humming the melodies after one listen. Joe mines a territory that many songwriters before him have walked upon, but he does in a very personal and unique way. His wordsmithing and tunesmanship sense is highly refined, his sense of humor never far from the surface. His songs concentrate on the travails of love and relationships but view them through his own slightly dark and (at times) semi-surreal lens. His musicianship and arrangement sensibilities provide a deep, multilayered musical experience. Highlights on this collection include "Whatever Baby Wants", "The Best Damn Day of My Life" and "Nevertheless". The last one is definitely the musical gem on the record, a wheezy pump organ and a world-weary vocal combine for a very effective, moody and slightly amuzing lament. If you like lots of musical and vocal layers, thought- and image-provoking lyrics and hook-laden songs get this record.
