A heart-felt singer songwriter approach to guitar driven, alternative pop.

notes

Jonathan Hape is a singer/songwriter from Lexington, Ohio. Born in 1984, Jonathan soon became fascinated with music; some of his biggest influences include R.E.M. and Polaris. Using no knowledge of theory, chords, or scale, Jonathan recoded his first 5 song EP when he was 12 with help from his father, Jeff Hape. After 3 more years of developing, Jonathan linked up with Justin Lamp and Keith Fruend to create the pop-punk act The Apollo Kids. After 2 years The Apollo Kids disbanded and Jonathan set his sights on a more alternative rock band to be called Flagship Down. After an entire summer of heartache and a new found obsession with The Promise Ring, Jonathan conned youth group buddies J.J. Robson, Nick Baker, and Brian DeVenny into playing a previously booked show and they stayed for the band's entire run. During the 2 years of Flagship's local acclaim, Jonathan also played drums for local band April Fair and recently signed The Winston Jazz Routine. Leaving his bands for a chance at a career in the recording industry, Jonathan began to stretch his playing and writing abilities and after almost 30 days of writing and recording he released his first solo album Give Me the Antidote -- with its themes of lost friendships, realization of failures, and the curse of apathy -- in January of 2004. The album suffered from the low quality of borrowed recording equipment, but few local fans seemed to mind. Jonathan took these songs to the people with the brothers Luke and Kyle Levesque in his current act Marksjet. While continuing his work with Marksjet, Jonathan found himself once more in his basement a year after his latest release working on solo work that would become Letters to India, a concept album as well as an ode to his cat India Shardona Pasquan. His ep, "Trees" features songs to later appear the upcoming full length, "Letters To India".

  • Personifies maturation

This is a very good first attempt at portraying an experienced singer/songwriter/artisan. Melodic, catchy, and simple. Musical equivalent to delicious food.
