His early credits include his composition of one of Tammy Wynette's first great hits, "Apartment # 9", and a great hit for Ray Price, "Touch My Heart". Johnny Paycheck recorded this masterpiece in March of 1984. The Sound track was done in one studio, and the vocals were done on world famous Music Row in the studio of Waylon Jennings. The final mix of the album took one month, working twelve hour days under the masterful hand of Producer Miles Sillis. At the time of this Recording Johnny Paycheck was on his way to #1 again. The title of the album, "Survivor", was synonymous with the name of Johnny Paycheck. The Search to find just the right music took three months , engaging the talents of some of the best songwriters, of the time period.

"Listening to this album now, and when it was recorded, it's an amazing retrospective of the life and times of Johnny Paycheck."

This is the great unknown Johnny Paycheck album. Paycheck's biggest hits were recorded for Epic but his best songs were on Little Darling during the 60s. After leaving Epic and freed of major label constraints, Paycheck again started recording interesting songs."I Never Got Over You" may be the best song Johnny Paycheck recorded after leaving Epic. He was still in good vocal form during these sessions and the songs are topflight.

  • Still remembering the 2 am incedent on my front porch

Just as always, you keep traditional country where it belongs.. and as long as artists like you and myself keep writing and doing traditionl country music, the legacy of our original songs will live on. I won't ever forget the 2 am jam we had back in the 50's on my front porch when my uncle(who was trying to get some sleep)came out and tried to pull the strings off my new D-28 Martin.(cost a whopping $169.00) You were the first person I ever let play my martin. You left your pick in the strings and I still have it to this day. www.cdbaby.com/misterbluestar (TRIBUTE TO DADDY)
