notes
He comes from a long line of conductors, composers, players and singers.
That Joey Farber is following in his talented family's footsteps, co-writing and singing the six original songs on his debut CD, is hardly a surprise.
Except that Joey is eight years old.
The topics - animals, trains, distant planets etc. will appeal to kids, but the songs, arrangements and production values are top notch and will appeal to all ages, even grown-ups!
The players on the CD are some of New York's finest free-lance musicians, including Peter Calo (Carly Simon), Mark Shulman (Jewel, Suzanne Vega, Chris Botti) and Larry Eagle (Bruce Springsteen). Playing keyboards on "The Early Years" is his father and co-writer, Seth Farber, pianist/conductor for the Broadway musical "Hairspray" and music director for blues legend Odetta. Mother Liz Queler, whose album "No Small Wonder" is a favorite in singer/songwriter circles, provides backing vocals. Both Farber and Queler are also members of the Little Band That Could, led by children's musician Brady Rymer.

adorable...magical..a great ride.
author: Claudia M.Brought tears to my eyes...amazing musicians, wonderful and rich songs....and sweetness from a talented little guy..
Good musicianship, but concerned..
author: MaryThere is no doubt that this little boy is talented, but there are many talented children out there.. The danger in parent's doing a CD like this with their child, is they run the risk of hearing that not everyone feels the same way about their kid that they do..There is something " divaesque" about the whole CD..the musicians are outstanding however, and a few of the songs are good. I would bet money that the making and promotion of this CD, caused this child unwanted and unnessary anxiety.
charming, amusing lyrics by music pros--a 7-yr.-old and his dad
author: Sue WashburnThese delightful songs sung by 7-yr.-old boy soprano Joey Farber—and composed by Joey and his dad, Seth Farber, superb jazz pianist—is a huge pleasure. The background vocals and wide range of instruments, along with the charming, amusing lyrics make this CD a must-have for a wide kid audience and for a sophisticated adult music audience as well. Joey plays guitar like a seasoned pro, but on this CD his instrument is the West African djembe.
