Innovative and raw!
author: Laura T Lynch of Kweevak.comStripped Down the CD title tells it like it is. This twelve-track collection features guitar master Joe Richardson on the acoustic and vocals. This is a bare bone blues record. The songs composed by Joe ring with authenticity. Richardson has the ideal voice for singing the blues. His expressive style is deep, organic and soulful. On this album he uses vintage guitars including a 1964 Gibson J-50, a 1937 Martin R-18 hole arch top and a 1932 metal body Dobro and others. These antique instruments add to the rich bodied sound found on this solo release. The music is simple yet complex. 'Killing...' is the opening track. It features Joe's versatile story telling with fine fretwork on a slightly twangy guitar. 'I've Got One Twing' is a song about being lonely but the whistling overlaid with the guitar is almost cheerful. An interesting juxtapose of ideas. 'Killin Ground' is startling from the very first chord to the last combined with Joe's bluesy vocals. Stripped Down is innovative in its basic format
