Julie Blue , the strongly anticipated release from singer/songwriter Joe Purdy is a must have for more reasons than one. The most popular reason is that it carries the first release of the song "Wash Away" as heard on the ABC show "LOST". But there are plenty of reasons to own this river record.

The record Julie Blue is a story of an artist inspired by a moment in time. This collection of memoirs was made in upstate NY, on a river island barely big enough for the house that stands on it. It was written and recorded in less than a week's time, and its spontaneity is evident through and through. From the simple rough nature of its recording, to the sound of water hitting the docks that can be heard in the background, this record tells the tale of an escape to a beautiful place, and the amazing experiences that were found there.

    This is the only album of Joe's that I've even heard. He does a wonderful job of transporting the listener to this 'moment in time' which he speaks of. When I listen to this disc I feel as though I've spent some time on that river with Joe, and experienced for myself the inspiration for his surreal collection of chill tunes. Quite a journey.

    Joe is brilliant, and Julie Blue showcases what a phenomenal singer/songwriter he is. The recording is definitely rough around the edges, but that is part of the beauty -- knowing that he put all this together on a river island. And anyone who can record music in that environment (no fancy equipment, acoustics of a studio) and sound so amazing...that speaks volumes about his musical ability. Quite simply, this album is pefection.

    I loved this CD! I grew up on an island on the St. Lawrence (and I remember the island that is so small it only has 1 house and 1 tree on it). This album flows, much like a river, with chord transitions and melodies repeating making the entire album seem like one long song. It reminded me of living on the river, and well, I don't know how to say it other than it made me feel all warm inside. Loved it! You've got to buy it! You won't be dissapointed.

    The story is that the artist wrote and recorded this album in just a week. In parts I can believe this because there is a theme and feel running through the songs - but in other ways it seems far too slick to have been put together in so short a time! Maybe I'm just a cynic, and maybe I should buy into the magic a bit more! The nature of the album is that there aren't many 'stand out tracks', apart from maybe 'I love the rain the most' - but this is kind of the point I think. He's created a soundtrack to a timespace he was in, and he's sharing that so that other people get to live to the same soundtrack. If anything, this album is kind of a teaser of Joe's work. It's going to generate interest and get people (including me) to buy his other material.

    Found this artist off the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack and decided I needed to hear more! His voice is awesome (for lack of a better word) and the CD just puts me in a good mood. The sound on the CD is a little soft but it helps add to the whole effect. I would highly recommend it!

    Ok, I admit - I am a total "rocker" that wouldn't usually buy a "folk" album... but I stumbled on this artist while surfing CD Baby and totally fell in love with it. So I ordered the CD and it's everything I hoped it would be. It is the perfect CD to throw in the stereo, sit back on the patio at the cottage and just chill - the cool thing is, it's also the perfect CD to throw in the car when your stuck in traffic and simply need to chill.     Like many other people, I first heard joe's music on the T.V. show Lost here in the U.K. Question, where has this diamond been hiding?. Several people have suggested that Julie Blue is to short, they say we need more! Speaking for myself, I would sooner have a perfect small diamond (which this album is) rather than a flawed larger one. I can't really add very much to what has already been said, this album is perfect in every way. For me the one thing that I get from the whole album is passion. This man Joe Purdy is honest and passionate. It may be the case that the world is not yet ready for this man and his music.

WAY better than Jack Johnson who bores me and gives me the feeling that he is too cool. I've listened to it almost non stop since it arrived in the post. It has such a pure raw sound which just makes the hairs on your arms stand up when you listen to it. Just gorgeous.

    If your looking for a laid back acoustic album then this is a must buy as it is about as laid back as you can get.     Like it has already been said a bit like Damian Rice' offerings. The CD is somewhat soulful and a lot of emotion has gone into writing the songs, my fave is wash away. Even the shorter songs seem to have a meaning. Wonder if he actually did go skinny dipping in the river which the album seems to be centered around. Thank you "lost" for introducing me to the song, and the artist, watch this space for joe Purdy, he'll come bursting onto the scene and if you don't have the album you soon will have.

    Who says TV is bad for you, 'Lost' on C4 enspired me (and many others) to locate 'wash away' and in the process find my album of the year. The album serves as a love story between a man and a river. The fantastic 'Skinny Dipping Girl', ' Whiskey and Fish' and 'I love the rain most' heads up a perfect cd, Joe Purdy voice is breathless and intimate, and 'Wash Away' never fails to make me smile.     Like most people, I heard Wash Away on Lost and then had a bit of a job hunting it down. But a friend has the album, coincidentally, and I inhaled it for about 2 days straight. Listening to it is like being cosy indoors with someone who gives you butterflies, while it's rainy and cold outside. It's warm and embracing and a tiny bit magical. The cautious optimism refers to his authenticity. There's something very pure about this album - the recordings are raw, but it's more than that - and the dude seems to have a musical integrity that - hopefully - won't segue into him creating something commercial or compromised for the masses. Ultimately, it's a beautiful album and it's only $12! Bear in mind, any one of these indistinguishable R n B/hippety hoppety albums'll set you back *at least* double that... Fosters a healthy sense of perspective, that. p.s another vote for a British tour, please.

    Julie Blue is a lovely collection of low-fi, stripped down, bluegrass-y guitar tunes. While the production values may be lacking, and the effort to sound meaningful is at times strained, there's no doubt that Purdy's heart (and mouth) are in the right place. The simplicity of some of the tracks (I Love The Rain The Most, and St. Lawrence Splits being good examples) are wonderful. A really good CD.     First heard 'Wash away' at the end of that Lost episode (like a few others it seems :) ) and immediately looked up the album. I'm from the UK and dont have a credit card, so i was dubious as to whether i'd be able to order from the states or not. But CD baby features Pay-Pal as a payment method so there was no trouble. The album is beautiful. It's a rare treat to find something so genuine and honest. The sound is stripped back, without millions upon millions spent on expensive production techniques to forever alter the final product. It's an inspiring record. Everything from the soft vocals and the toneful guitar, to the sound of the river lapping gently outside. Superb.

    Heard "Wash Away" on Lost and with a few drinks inside me decided I needed to own an album or two by the guy responsible. Could only find the chap on this website and that quickly looked to be fortuitous as the communication and delivery were top-notch. When I played the album I was worried to hear that the version of "Wash Away" is different, still good but not as fleshed out as the version on Lost. However, the Lost Version is included as a reprise at the end of the album so it's all good. To be fair the stripped down version fits better with the rest of the album, and it is a very very quiet and minimalist LP. This works tremendously in creating an atmosphere and putting the listener in the scene of the album's recording. A very good album, not stunning, but certainly solidly melodic and persistent in its intent. 3.5 stars.

    How can you describe 'Julie Blue' Or Joe Purdy? How can you put a rating on something that blows your mind? Joe Purdy and his newest album 'Julie Blue' is one of the most amazing pieces of material i think i have ever heard and would recommend to everyone. Most people have only heard of Joe due to the series Lost playing the reprise version of Joe's 'Wash Away' - which to be fair they used in a good context. I think they summed up the mood of the song well with what was happening. But don't be fooled - Joe is no one trick pony! The album rises and sores above anything else i have ever bought and is worth so much more than what we have to pay. I almost feel like i'm robbing CD Baby at this price!!! Obviously the stand out track is 'Wash Away' - people who like lost would be wanting to listen to the reprise version, but please take the time to listen to the original, its relaxing and haunting at the same time and the pop fell is stripped away. Other stand out tracks are 'I like the rain the most', 'lazy day blues', 'Abbie's Song' and 'Skinny Dippin Girl'. But my personal favourite is 'Whiskey and Fish' Track 7. It is a mixture of folk, country and joe rolled into one. Takes you away to that special place by the river and lets you into a world you would never imagine. If you like Joe Purdy i would also recommend Jay Nash, he worked with Joe on the record 'Julie Blue'. Don't delay buy today!!!

The album is great the rest of the tracks (apart from washaway reprised) sounds a little less studio but nonetheless the album is very good.     I hope artists aren't insulted when they are compared to others. It's like we use musicians of the past to learn how to scale this mountain a bit higher, hoping some musician after us, will hear our music and scale it even higher. Having said that, this CD is so intimate, I feel like I know this guy. Only got that feeling from one other artist, Nick Drake. I've thought of love, loss, childhood, nature, and even what it means to live in a moment in time while listening to this album. I was pleased that a keyword search on Google brought me straight to CD Baby, and especially pleased that my order was processed and CD in hand, within a few short days. Learning "Julie Blue" was recorded in upstate New York took me back to favorite haunting grounds along the Hudson River Valley on into the Adirondacks. This is simply a stunning piece of work. Sparse. Peaceful. The arrangement and lyrics are uplifting and encouraging, and easy to harmonize with while singing along. In closing, just wanted to note how much I enjoyed "Wash Away" in both the opening and closing tracks. Nice bookends. Beautiful work.     Perfect cd to listen to for the summer. I can just picture where it was recorded in upstate NY, because I live generally near that area. The songs are just right for easy-listening, and the lyrics capture the essence of each song. 'Wash Away' was the perfect song for the third episode of 'Lost'. Another favorite is 'I love the rain the most'. I can see why these songs are picked to be featured in hit television shows. Relaxing and captures the mood very well. Overall, brilliant.

    this is beautiful music. highly recommended. my only complaint is that the quality of the recording was lacking on a few tracks - reverberation and not a great balance between the vocal and the music track. The final song, Wash Away reprise was the most balanced and perfect recording on the album in my opinion.

    Tonight I was walking by the TV as my wife was watching an episode of Lost she had Tivo'd. I heard this amazing music and sat down in front of the TV and was blown away. I went online and found out about Joe Purdy. I bought the CD from iTunes and I feel like I'm back listening to "real" music again. I love it. I won't ever give her a hard time for watch that show again!

    The music on this CD is great. If you're looking for something mellow and a little sensual, Julie Blue is it. I put it in my CD alarm clock and couldn't force myself out of bed because I just let it play. The few faster paced songs vary it up a little and I'd like to see more of that on Joe's next CD. My only issues were the length (very short songs) and also the fact that I couldn't import the songs to load them onto my iPod without losing severely in the quality. Won't even play in iTunes without going staticky. Worth buying for the boombox on your deck on a sunny afternoon. Or a rainy morning.

    The number-one-song, Wash Away, really touched me. It´s an easylistened folk-style song with a touch of sadness. The song is defenitely in the highest division among, for example, Bob Dylans unforgetable songs. The song is the absolute pearl of the album. The rest of the songs dont really reach the same level as Wash Away but they are all good relaxing songs.

    This is a great CD for lazy Sundays or any summer afternoon. It makes me feel like I'm on vacation. I'm starting to hear other Joe Purdy songs in the background of television shows other than LOST. It's great to see this artist gain exposure!     I LOVE THIS CD! Yeah, that's me, another fan of LOST. Fell in love with "Wash Away" as soon as I saw the episode. I knew I just had to have this cd!     Although some tracks sound like a faster-tempo version of other songs on the CD, all songs feature a capturing melody and a flavourful (sic: Canadian) assortment of instruments. Joe's voice carries each tune perfectly, making each song a perfectly told story. More than worth the few clamshells it costs.

    I love the music even if it is slow and painful sometimes.The first 2 songs are gibberish, I can't make out three words in a row. Mix in a quicker beat now and then, "Whiskey and Fish" the one song that that breaks the pace is great. "I Love The Rain" is my favorite. Keeping it simple and acoustic is awesome it shows true talent.

Unfortunately, you can't get the album here in norway yet, but let me tell you, when this one hits the shelves, its gonna blow this country away.     I visit a lot of music venues in Los Angeles and kept hearing about this Joe Purdy. I was told that once I heard his voice, I would long for more - and it is so true. I had the pleasure of hearing Joe perform the songs on this CD live and was absolutely blown away. "Skinny Dippin' Girl," "Wash Away" and "St. Lawrence Spits" kept playing in my head and I had to get the CD. Joe's voice is as hauntingly beautiful as the river that inspired this work. Buy a copy of this CD now!!!

    This cd is beautiful. I was exposed to Joe Purdy when his new song "Wash Away" was played on ABC's LOST a few weeks ago and knew I had to have the cd. I found it for sale on this website, previewed the songs, and was completely amazed! The songs are each unique, and yet the underlying theme holds true throughout the album. My favorite songs are both versions of "Wash Away", "Skinny Dippin' Girl", and "I Love The Rain The Most". If you enjoy artists like John Mayer and Jack Johnson, then Joe Purdy's JULIE BLUE is a must have!

    We caught the show with Jay Nash at the Lost Nav over the weekend and absolutely HAD to have the CD! Living in the area where the music was recorded, we must say that Joe had found a muse in our River - making the River his own in the process. If you live 'in it, by it, or on it', this CD will make those frozen winters up north much easier to take. He truly captures the essence of what it's like to live here. To paraphrase one of the tracks, "I hated this CD the most... when it ended."

    I didn't know Joe Purdy until I heard his song "Wash Away" on an episode of ABC's LOST. I searched until I found the artist and I bought the CD. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the other songs on the CD, though I wish they were longer. Many of the songs on here are around 2 minutes long so the entire CD is only about 35 minutes long. I can’t help but feel like each song has more potential but then it ends before you can really get into it. All that being said, I do find myself humming and singing these songs when I am away from my CD player so I must admit the are really sticking with me. All in all, I would recommend the CD.

    While I have loved Joe Purdy for awhile now, I was a bit bummed when I received the "Julie Blue" CD. While Purdy's music continues to be fantastic, the length of the CD is upsetting. Many songs are under two minutes each, with the entire CD coming in at under 35 minutes. It's hard to kick back and relax to a CD when you know it's going to end quickly! Nevertheless, I recommend this CD, as well as any other Joe Purdy CD you can get your hands on!

He doesn't pull out all the stops with electric guitars and drum loops, nor does he try to pull the rug out from under our ears by changing his musical direction. Recorded in less than a week's time, 'Julie Blue' is a sparse record, with some songs clocking in at less than a minute, but it's also a gentle, lovely record of warm humanity and grace--the kind of record perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon when you're sitting by the bay windows with a great book in your hand, a throw blanket over your legs, a cup of hot tea on the table, and the sound of the world outside just within earshot. Highlights include the excellent "Skinny Dippin' Girl," "Far Away Blues," and the lovely "I Love the Rain the Most," but all the songs are equally wonderful. Some might say it's just more of the same, but when it comes to Joe Purdy, that's not such a bad thing at all. Grade: A-

    Highly anticipated album since I heard the song on "Lost" a few weeks back. I am quite please with the rest of the album as well, great music to sit back and relax with.

    I cant believe how pleasant and uplifting this cd is. The sound is so simple but so beautiful. It amazes me that Joe recorded this in less than a weeks time. Thank god I am a "Lost" fan or I may never have discovered this brilliant singer songwriter. Check out "I love the rain the most"; straight dope. I played my girlfriend less than 5 min. of the cd and she is already begging me to burn her a copy.
