Have you ever been hooked on the narrative of a conversation that you weren't supposed to hear? That is one of the things you might feel when listening to the music of singer/songwriter Joe Purdy. As he remembers an angry moment or a stolen kiss, his voice becomes startlingly intimate -- you can practically feel his breath on your ear. His sweet, folk- flavored melodies, coupled with the warm tones of an old Gibson guitar, are enough to make an audience blush.

Purdy's bluegrass roots show through on "StompinGrounds," the third independent release from the golden-voiced Arkansas native. Mandolin and banjo solos accent the likes of "Woman Go" and "Trouble," and good old-fashioned storytelling reigns throughout. But Purdy throws a few curveballs -- well-placed synthesizers on songs like "Rainy Day Lament" keep the sound fresh and closer to David Gray than Doc Watson. If you liked "Heartbreaker," you are bound to fall for "StompinGrounds."

    Joe Purdy has been my find of the year. Such a mesmerising voice and beautiful lyrics – I just cannot stop listening to him. I have all of his cds now and while it is hard to pick a favourite, I really recommend Stompingrounds. All the songs are fantastic but the stand out ones for me are Trouble, Another Old Love Song, This Morning Blue & Rainy Day Lament. I am surprised more people do not know of him – they don’t know what they are missing out on!!

    If you like DMB (old stuff), Damien Rice and Ray LaMontagne, you'll love this CD. It's mellow and has an excellence cadence. The songs are varied enough to keep you interested, yet cohesive enough so that if you love one, you love them all. I'll be buying more of Joe Purdy.

    Having not heard of joe purdy before i must say this album is nothing short of brilliant. My favourate is either 'stompingrounds' or 'catarina'. As i live in the UK i must thank CD Baby for delivering it at a very good price and thank Joe Purdy for making a very layed back and brilliant album.

    The thing I love about Joe Purdy is the power incased in his lyrics and music. He beautifully combines his poweful lyrics with haunting melodies to produce the magic he exhibits on every track. A lesson can be learned from every song he sings. Listen and learn everyone, listen and learn.

    I absolutely LOVE this CD and haven't been able to stop listening to it since I got it a few weeks ago. Joe's voice is so beautiful and pure, and he puts such feeling into his music -- the vocals and instrumentals. Trouble is my favorite song, but there's not one on the CD that I don't love. This is a must-have, but know that w/just 1 listen, you'll be hooked.

    Like most people i first heard of Joe when the TV show LOST played Wash away. Well this man has swept me away, i've bought 'Julie Blue' together with 'Stomping Grounds' and they are both albums that should be in everybody's cd collection. There are very few artists out there that can put so much raw emotions in his songs. This cd gave me Goosebumps the first time i listened to it, and it hasn't been out of my play list ever since.

    After first hearing Julie Blue, this CD only continues my admiration for the musical talents of Joe Purdy. In Stompin Grounds he takes the listener to new locations of comfort, with a different kind of heightened instrumental style which reaches another level in his work. With a few standout songs such as he said she said, this album still falls one star lower than Julie Blue. The overall effect of entering the Stompin Grounds should still have listeners begging for his next album, Only Four Seasons.

    i think this is one of the best albums ive ever heard, i had julie blue and i've literally just recieved this via post, and ive stuck it on with my headphones on and im just gone, i cant stop saying 'i love this CD' over and over in my head. and i cant stop repeating it again and again. you know when people say what music are you into?, and its one of those things you cant really answer. if i had too say one style, this IS IT.this is style its silk. outstanding. i wish i wrote this. (thankyou CD baby, im agin overly impressed by this excellent service)

    If you are buying "Julie Blue" then buy this album too. I actually like this album better! Both are fantastic. Purdy has an amazing way of making you feel like he's just playing and singing just for you. If you like artists like Jeff Buckley, Elliot Smith or Damien Rice, you'll love Joe Purdy. Don't hesitate.     Joe Purdy's CD "Stomping Grounds" is absolutely breathtaking. I first listened to the entire CD while driving home from a friend's place on a Sunday morning. Purdy's voice is so warm, soft and intimate that you feel as if you have known him all your life. You also get that feeling because of the amazing songs on this CD...the themes covered, the emotions explored, they are all ones every human being has experienced at some point in his/her life. Buy this CD immediately; it will be one you will play over and over. It's simply amazing.

    I was so excited to get this CD in the mail! I had only heard a few songs by Mr. Purdy... but knew that I wanted more! He is extremely lyrically inclined, has a voice which delivers strong emotion all atop of perfectly written guitar melodies. I couldn't ask for more... except for more albums just like this.

    I spent a weekend in Vail a few weeks ago and had the pleasure of hearing Joe Purdy play live. As soon as I got home I ordered as much of his stuff I could find; this album included. Joe Purdy is truly a musical diamond in the rough and StompinGrounds is a perfect example of his gifts.     I LOVE Joe Purdy. I have bought Julie Blue also and like it just a little bit more than Stompingrounds. I enjoyed all of the songs on this album except The Morning Blue (the background music) and the first half of Rainy Day Lament(kinda boring). I still think it's a great CD, however and will play it endlessly. Hopefully Joe will get an award for his amazing work!

    There are a lot of folk guys out there right now. Some more marketing than substance. I will not name names or make comparisons - but Joe Purdy is the real deal. He has a rich, organic feel about his words and music. I own over 1000 cd's and I am pretty picky. This is good stuff.
