notes
Sometimes it’s the furthest branches that produce the ripest fruit, and Joel Lightman’s journey toward success has seen him reach both high and far. From London, England, to Toronto, Canada, Joel’s journey has never been less than eventful.
It started with singer/songwriter Joel, cranking out classics in the bar of London’s Savoy Hotel. The boy’s got class, they’d say, but the tedium of playing endless afternoon sets for the casually rich and shameless was beginning to take its toll. He wanted more. He wanted out.
Encouraged by some music industry contacts, Joel cut the Savoy gig, sold the case of stolen jewels he had buried in the garden and got the hell out of dodge. Arriving in Toronto, Joel began playing solo gigs immediately: honing his sound, sharpening his lyrics, pummelling the piano with a craftsman’s vengeance. Joel’s influences range far and wide, from the composers of the roaring twenties through to Ben Folds Five. And as the songs developed – the warmth of his voice rising to match the casual elegance with which he hammers those keys – he knew his sound was becoming unique.
Then one night at a gig, Joel bumped into Ryan Sullivan, who offered to play drums, also recommending long-time collaborator Rory Sills on guitar. Just one problem: said guitarist was currently living a two-minute walk from Joel’s old place back in London. Small world.
But several phone calls and listening sessions later, all three of them knew this band was meant to happen. Rory packed his things, just as Joel had done some weeks earlier, and left behind the eloquent smog of London for Toronto.
The trio honed the songs with endless hours of rehearsal, developing the on-stage telepathy that makes the three of them such a powerfully engaging live act.
And now, some serious quality time in the studio with acclaimed producer George Seara (50 Cent, Sting, Chris Robinson) brings you Every Street Corner, the extraordinary new album by the Joel Lightman band. Joel has travelled far and wide to develop his songs, hone his art and find the perfect band of fellow musicians. As this album proves, it was well worth the journey.

Outstanding Adult Rock/Pop CD
author: William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team"Every Street Corner" by the Joel Lightman Band is an excellent, upbeat adult rock/pop album with a fresh and quirky sound. The band has a big full sound and tons of energy. The songs are all well written and filled with lots of melody and huge catchy choruses. The piano is a key instrument in this act as it serves as the catalyst for the arrangements and is the driving force of the sound. Think Ben Folds meets The Beatles. The songs are all radio ready and professionally produced. Highlights include the opener "Step it Up" with a rockin' piano progression, driving beat and all the qualities of a great single. "These Feelings" has a bit of a country vibe behind some nice piano work and features some well placed Beatles-esque changes. "My Sweetest Vice" hits hard with a pounding beat and persistent vocals. If you adult rock/pop music and bands such as Del Amitri, you'll enjoy this outstanding CD.

Buy this cd, you will not be sorry
author: AndyThe bands style appears to be drawing on influences from many modern bands. Usually I hate this, but here it works. Turn the volume up and be entertained. You will not be disappointed

Great stuff
author: Andrew SThe beginning of the album is terrific from a musical point of view, the last few songs are a tad bit "boring" for lack of a better word, overall i can truely say that it is my favorite cd at the time....................
