Multi-Instrumentalist Joe Craven of the David Grisman Quintet Offers Latin Interpretations of Classic Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli in Django Latino!
Django Latino is not another gypsy jazz rendition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli compositions. Multi-instrumentalist Joe Craven's third solo release breaks new ground with a fresh look at the writing of the Reinhardt/Grappelli team with fourteen of their classic compositions as viewed through a musical lens of Latin America. Whether it's "Nuages" with a Cuban flair, "Hungaria" with a Brazilian twist, or "Tears" as an Argentinean Tango, Craven passionately emulates classic Latin dance styles for each composition as well as showing his versatility on a multitude of instruments and showcasing many guest artists. Craven's Latin translations of this unique 20th Century style of jazz offer a new, unique and utterly enjoyable listening experience.
Veteran of the David Grisman Quintet for 16 years, Joe has been deemed by Grisman as "the world's most versatile sideman." Mandolinist, fiddler and mad scientist of anything with strings and everything percussive, Joe has left his stamp on recordings by artists from Jerry Garcia and the Persuasions to Ramblin Jack Elliott and poet Ken Nordine. Craven had the good fortune to perform with Grisman's quintet on dates with Stéphane Grapelli as the experience further piqued Craven's interest in the era-defining music of Reinhardt and Grappelli.

Hot, hot, hot
author: todd maeJoe Craven can play. You name it, this man can downright play. After listening to the clips, I'm absolutely convinced that he is one of the best, most underrated musicians. Melodic, groovy, latin- fused with a sliver of, well fused with a little of Joe.
