Ground Zero Blues Club's mission is to showcase the best of the "real deal" blues musicians who are from or have ties to the Mississippi Delta and who play the blues because it's in their blood and not because it trendy.
Jimbo Mathus is hot-wired into our blues community, and no one does a better job of honoring the genre via performance, recording and lifestyle. Because it's in his blood, Jimbo has a unique rapport with blues musicians of any stripe, and he is trusted as a consummate musician professional.
When WBGO and NPR called about an international live broadcast from GZBC, our next step was a no-brainer: Get Jimbo.
In lining up Terry "Harmonica" Bean, Wesley Jefferson and Big George Brock --- in addition to a sizzling backup band --- Jimbo set in motion a performance at GZBC that my ever-astute sweetie, Chris, Likened to "herding cats". Jimbo pulled it off, though --- and how!
I was in Virginia on a New Year's Eve 2004 when WBGO, NPR, NPR Worldwide and Armed Forces Radio went live to Clarksdale, Mississippi. I am not exaggerating when I say I wept to hear Jimbo tell the GZBC audience, "Clarksdale, say hello to the world!" the ensuing chest poking, hard-hitting, boogie-making hour made us dance around the living room like raunchy wild banshees. I was so proud of our club, of our town.
This recording is a mere hint of what's going on in Clarksdale, "ground zero for the blues." Y'all come boogie with us.

author: Kayt OwensThis is an awesome CD. Not only does it come close to making you feel like you were there, it's so hot it makes you sorry you missed the live show. If you love the blues, you need this CD of incredible blues music played by amazing musicians, most notably Mr. Jimbo Mathus himself. I hope someday to visit the Ground Zero and experience this goodness in person. Get this CD, you won't be sorry.
