Joe’s rich collection of flute melodies draws the listener into a world of mists, ancient dreams and pathways.
A classically trained saxophonist, Joe was given a penny whistle as a gift some years ago. “On some level it seemed so simple, but the tone was gorgeous. As I got to know the instrument the complexity of it was revealed to me.” Thus began his journey, exploration of a variety of flutes ranging from Native American, Penny whistle, Pan Pipes and Chinese Xiao.
His debut solo album, Pathways, was released in 2004. This album is an infusion of old and new; Native American flute and penny whistle, as well as an occasional saxophone driven melody. The lush backdrop of percussive beats and soothing pads created by modern synthesizers adds to the rich texture of Joe’s compositions.
Residing for most of his life in Idaho, Joe makes his living as a musician, composer and sound engineer in Boise, Idaho. His solo engagements include summer festivals, private parties and coffee shops. Joe is also a member of several ensemble groups and most recently opened for nationally recognized folk singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer.
