Jim Yackel came to the cross and gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 2000. Circa 2005, the Holy Spirit prompted him to become active again in music, which led to the 2007 release of his first Christian-Rock CD, titled AGAPE'. The influence of the Beatles can be heard in the melodies and chord changes, but the lyrics speak of Jesus, His free gift of salvation, and His soon return--Maranatha!
The road Jim Yackel took to the cross was a long and winding one...
Yackel began playing nightclubs on the "Thruway Circuit" in upstate New York in 1980. The bands and the personnel were in a constant state of flux; however Jim's writing style was constant--Beatles influenced pop-rock.
After years of pursuing the elusive recording contract, Yackel and his band Groovetown Fire Department independently released a CD in 1994. GFD did not last long after its lone recording venture, which prompted Yackel to go solo and release a cassette-only album titled "Petition" in 1996. In 1998, Jim Yackel retired from making music. He believed that his exodus from music was permanent. What he knows now and didn't know then was that the "retirement" period was but a temporary one--a change of season and a time for restoration, which would lead to being born again through Christ Jesus. Jesus gave him life everlasting and a new purpose in music making.

Inspirational
author: Tim GillWow Jim! Great stuff! I have been dealing with Jim for a while now outside of the music side, and was curious about his music. I bought this CD, and I was more than surprised. I had not been a regular "church-goer" in the past, but something in Jim's music inspired me to reimmerse myself in the church. I love the music, but I found the love Jim showed for the Lord in his words and it sparked a strond desire in me to return to the Lord. Thank you for the inspiration, and may the good Lord continue to bless you in your future endeavors.
Agape Review
author: CarolAnn DiFabioPassionate--that's how I describe this collection of songs on the CD Agape'. Yackel means what he says and says what he means, and his love for the Lord is abundantly revealed through these colorful and delightfully infectious songs. For the unititiated, the Beatles influence is unmistakable in the MUSIC itself. The 10 songs that make up Agape' unfold like a Christian Rubber Soul or Revolver. If the Beatles had become a Christian band, this may have been what they would have sounded like. And yet, the sound is unique unto itself--a bit pop, a bit rock, somewhat edgy, and always interesting! The opening track "Tears of Joy" sings of the blessing of serving Jesus through one's life. "God Is Love" is a sensitive ballad that is Christianity 101, and burrows heavily from the Epistle of John. I heard this song and was moved to tears! "We Are The Church" is a full-bore, up-tempo worship, and would remind you musically of the Monkees "Last Train To Clarksville". "Supernatural Wonderful Thing" gets under your skin and stays in your head, and you'll walk around singing the joyous refrain until people think that your are daffy. "He's Coming" sings of the the imminent return of Jesus--with trumpets and majestic rock guitars surrounding Yackel's passionate voice. The song is powerful, moving, and evangelizes with a capitol "E"!

Jim what an album I like it in all ways especially God is love, flesh, seven words. You definitely sound beatle like but that is a good thing. How can anyone not like this album? Have you thought of promoting it thru the christian coffee houses? I would like to help promote you and your album. That is the gift i have in the body of christ. Any ideas i get i will pass on to you. When i have enough money to buy your cd i can play it for people that come thru here and they can go on your website and buy it. It is a small contribution but nonetheless what i can do besides tell my friends. A suggestion for the next album, make let it be a worship one full of scriptures cause the word will not come back void. I can see Andy playing with you and then getting saved after a time of playing with you. When i saw Andy at Redemption Tabernacle i didn't know Dave had been a back up drummer with a band etc. I couldn't believe that he would step foot in that church but it was there nonetheless and it happened, and i am still hlownaway. I will be praying that you guys form a band(if that is God's will) and that you become well known and prosper and spread God's love and forgiveness and can make a living, both of you. Again if that is God's will. I will be praying fervently about this and your wife being saved and so keep me abreast of it all. i pray every am with a prayer partner Ruth from Community Covenant and we have been for about 5years.
