Bluegrass, Baroque, Celtic, or Classical, regardless of its origin or era of composition, all great music shares the quality of being truly timeless. This music sounds its best when it is performed, as intended, on handmade, acoustic instruments combining the tone woods of spruce,
maple, rosewood or mahogany. Hopefully, the music contained on this CD will bring the sacrificial tree back to life and allow each individual listener to travel to their own unique place where they can become "Lost in the Woods."

Jim Cornwell's "Lost in the Woods" CD is an instrumental compilation of traditional style fiddle tunes and music played on acoustic steel string guitar and mandolin. This is his second release following his premier CD "Over the Rainbow." The tunes come from the Bluegrass, Celtic, Baroque, and Classical repertoires, and primarily feature flatpicked lead and rhythm with some fingerpicking. Track eight consists of two original mandolin compositions inspired by Jim's horses. This track was nominated for "Best Instrumental Roots" song for the Just Plain Folks Music Awards in 2006. This was truly an honor being that the nomination was selected out of 25,500 albums, 350,000 songs from 105 countries. Jim's arrangement of Pachabel's Canon in D has been used in many wedding ceremonies across the county as well as his arrangement of Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

As always, Jim's goal is to bring this music the digintiy and respect that it deserves, and to share it not just with fellow musicians and string music fans, but also with a new audience who might not normally be familiar with this style of music.

    The songs are spectacular. You have heard some of these songs before, but never played with this precision. Both the mandolin and guitar (both played by the artist), are fast, crisp, and clean - never a muffled or missed note. This CD is spectacular and can hold its own with anything sold by the big time labels. If you like bluegrass mandolin and guitar, you are going to love this CD.

    Turn it up, sit back and wait a few seconds. What is this? You got it. A fast, hard driving, intense C/d. No flat spots on this one. Triple stops, pull offs and just plain great picking. A must hear.

    The flickering glow from the fire, and a few dimly lit lamps scarcely illuminate the lone instrumentalist. The quaint Irish Pub is bustling tonight; with barely enough room to sip your pint of Guinness. There is not a sound, as all eyes and ears are focused on the serene and inspired melody emanating from the artists essence, playing with a magical touch. All are entranced by the pureness, the absolute genius of this performers rendering. This is where I go when listening to this CD, thanks Jim.

    Lost in the Woods succeeds spectacularly in its interpretation of traditional guitar and mandolin tunes, especially Danny Boy, while cleanly melding in the musicians own original flavor. But where Lost in the Woods excels, is in its elucidation of classical greats—Bach’s Jesu, Beethoven’s Fur Elise, Mozart’s Alla Turka, and, especially, Pachabel’s Canon in D major—through exceptional guitar and mandolin work. A truly wonderful collection of music!
