notes

Passionate, expressive acoustic folk sung with such honesty and clarity that it stirs both your feet and your soul, then breaks your heart for good measure and leaves you begging for more.

Jill Anderson is an Omaha, Nebraska native now living in New York. Her interest in Irish and Scottish folk music began in her teen years and resulted in the birth of the vocal trio Beyond the Pale, which performed widely in Omaha, Chicago, Minneapolis. They produced a self-titled CD showcasing their signature harmonies, and had built a strong following by the time they disbanded.

Jill retained her interest in the music and was eager to do a solo album when the opportunity presented itself. Film producer Dana Altman, who worked with her on the feature film "omaha: the movie" in the nineties, heard her singing to entertain the cast on the bus hauling the film crew between locations. He linked her with composer and commercial musician Steve Horner, of Horner Music Inc., and the three produced "cool of the day," her first solo CD.

The follow-up CD, "7 Songs," produced in partnership with Steve Horner, has tunes she especially enjoys performing and includes an American folk song as well as Irish and Scottish material.

Jill currently has an active career in music and theater and has co-written and produced as well as performed in music and theater productions. Find more about Jill on her web site, www.redchairrecords.com.

Just got back from Ireland and mentioned to a friend that my great-grandfather was from Athenry and that I very much wanted to find a version of :Fields of Athenry:. She googled it and found your cd and had it sent to me as a surprise. We can't even begin to tell you how much we love the entire cd. Thanks you so much!

  • Another stunning collection by this very talented artist.

More beautiful ballads by Jill Anderson. She deserves much success. I look forward to her next one.

  • Blown away

This purchase was undeniably the bargain of this or any other year. Like other reviewers, I was looking for a version of the Fields of Athenry. This has to be the definitive version. Mind you, the whole album is brilliant; how could it fail to be with such a clear, powerful, pitch-perfect voice singing with true feeling? The only mystery is how/why many lesser talents are thrust in my face constantly when I had to come across this gem almost by accident......

  • Great record, especially the Fields of Athenry

I reviewed several versions of the Fields of Athenry for background music for a DVD of the Irish famine. This is the best for my pictures as it is sung with true feeling.

  • Beautiful

I bought this CD initially for Fields of Athenry one of my favorite songs but I have really enjoyed the whole CD Jill has a beautiful clear voice.

Great collection of songs! Not to worry -- you won't sob uncontollably on Fields of Athenry after hearing it 65 times! Thank you, Jill, for the listening pleasure you have given us!

  • Wonderful!

This is excellent music. Jill Anderson sings with feeling, giving her already impressive voice remarkable power, and giving the songs a beauty that surpasses technical perfection. If only there were more of them, though... repeat buttons wear out so quickly.

  • amazing, stunning, transporting

I was absolutely floored when I heard this CD. The arrangements and performances of the material work together seamlessly to tell the unique story of each individual song. Not one note on this CD (vocal or instrumental) is wasted. The songs brim with authenticity, and the quality of the craftmanship is evident in every aspect of the production. Be careful when you listen to this CD--Jill's voice, alternately ethereal and aggressive, will seduce you. Brilliant.

  • Very nice voice

Jill Anderson has a wonderfully expressive voice...she is truly a pleasure to listen to. I like the material she does on her "Cool of the Day" CD a bit better, but her voice is still worth investing in this one.
