notes
John Henry Blues is a driving force in the revitalization and renewed popularity of American Blues in Italy. Powered with John's equal love of Blues, Gospel and R&B he and his band continue to refashion and fuel the boom that rolls on into the new millennium. John's from-the-heart vocals and stinging guitar work combined with his charismatic stage presence and electrifying live performances, have caused listeners and critics alike to take notice.
Live performing is the cornerstone of John Henry's agenda. 'It's the core of our existence,' he says. 'To perform in front of people with different cultures, beliefs and languages and be able to communicate to them my deepest feelings and emotions: it's total fulfillment; it's what being a human being is all about.' On the other side of the equation, those who appreciate a hard-working band making music that's honest and pure, and who know the real deal when they see it, will find their own fulfillment in the music of John Henry Blues.
Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, John Henry (vocals, guitar) has easily found inspiration to sing the blues. Relocating to Boston, he got his first taste of the blues stage at the age of 17, playing in the cities thriving blues scene. He later went back to Alabama to hone his skills, making frequent trips to Memphis's Beale Street. After serving four years in the military he embarked on a world tour playing his blues as far as Korea, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Bahrain and Panama. He has performed with blues greats like: Luther Allison, Louisiana Red, Buckwheat Zydeco, Michael Coleman, Katie Webster, L.A. Jones and John Moohney. Returning to Italy he has formed an explosive band capable of transporting your soul and mind to the blistering, raunchy, smoke filled roadhouses of The Blues.
