Jen Foster
Ordinary Girl
© 2001 Jen's Big Music (634479153365)
CD permanently out of stock. Sorry!
Train meets Alanis at a sleepover with U2's Bono. Finally, female rock with substance. This self-produced masterpiece layers edgy rock guitars over spacious orchestral arrangements. And the girl has something to say, too.

notes
She's been called "mesmerizing", "rebellious", "tantalizing", and "provocative". It's a lot to live up to, but Jen Foster somehow pulls it off. Sure, she stands out in a crowd, but the crowd is there to see her perform.
As Jen says, "There is supposed to be more to rock music than just making noise. I want my lyrics to strike a nerve in people, to communicate something unique and universal all at once. I mean, what's the point of writing or performing if you don't provoke your audience?"
Foster currently resides in the mostly country but plenty-rocking town of Nashville, Tennessee, and lately, she's been very busy. Having won the respect of legendary songwriter Randy Bachman, Foster regularly flies to his digs in Canada to write and record with him.
She says that Bachman is a great mentor: "Randy has accomplished so much in his life, and he is still so ambitious, so driven to write hit songs. He has taught me discipline. You get up every day, whether you're inspired or not, and you write, you play, you just do it." When home, Foster writes and produces her own music and performs to large, loyal crowds all over the Southeast.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Foster spent her adolescence in an upper-middle class Houston suburb. She attended a Catholic all-girl's high school where she admits she was "a wild child". She began playing and writing songs as an outlet for her creative energy, and soon she was entertaining large crowds at local events.
Upon graduation, Jen moved to Los Angeles, California, to attend Whittier College, where she was affectionately known as "Rock Star". She won Best Performer four years in a row at the school's annual talent competition, and she became a fixture at coffeehouses and clubs all over the L.A. area.
Jen decided to exit L.A's fast lane after college to develop herself personally, spiritually, and artistically. She instinctively knew that Nashville would provide the platform from which her music would take flight. And she was right.
Jen Foster mesmerizes her audiences with a charismatic personality and a wide range of song themes that always leave the crowd wanting more. " I am fascinated by the complexity of human existence - both the good and the bad. But even when I write about dark themes, I always try to show the light at the end of the tunnel. I am essentially a positive person who wants to do good things through my music."
Jen is fresh out of the studio with a new, self-produced album called "Ordinary Girl", a project which she considers to be her life-statement. This album perfectly captures the emotional intensity of this multi-dimensional artist. "As long as I'm living life and doing what I love, I'll never run out of things to write about."

You Won't Skip By A Single Song
author: Zoo GirlThere is nothing like this CD out there, or at least i haven't found it yet. She's as good as Ani Difranco and the Indigo Girls, without the anger and she appeals to the twenty-somethings like me. Strong vocals and guitar play, along with the words in every song. Ordinary Girl and She are by far my favorites, but there is not a song i skip on this album, simply awesome!
