notes

Jem already has years of musical ability under his belt. After reaching grade 5 in piano and musical theory, he picked up a guitar at age 13. This has been his weapon of choice ever since, from his first band at 17 (Not With a Bang) through to Blade Chain (300 live dates, 1000 album sales through Andys Records and gigs and popular tees) and beyond. At 21 Jem developed an affinity to the bass, but as he was already on lead vocals and acoustic guitar in ‘Blade Chain’ and reincarnation ‘Faith’, the four string was left to his brother Simon in both bands.
Always writing original tracks, Jem has been gigging around the South from an age when he couldn’t even get a drink from the bar afterwards. Rekindling his love for the bass, Jem joined ‘Blah Blah’ for a year in the late 90s. He has since played party music regularly with ‘The Flintstones’ ‘til 2004. Currently playing with ‘Untouchable’ a three piece covers band plus playing Original Music and Covers with Rod Green in the acoustic duo Double Vision.
A music tutor both privately and in schools, Jem has continued to write original songs with his brother mixing and producing. The fruit of his labours is the debut album ‘Brand New Star’, blending genres similar to that of acoustic favourite Jack Johnson made stronger with powerful vocals. Some tracks mellow piano based ballads, some full band backed sessions, ‘Brand New Star’ has something for everyone.

  • Competent all round musicianship a'la James Blunt/David Gray/Jack Johnson
    author: Big Rich

Some powerful vocal performances on this debut album . All I Need , Light of Day and Brand New Start are my favourites. A mixture of unplugged acoustic tracks, piano based ballads and full band arrangements give the album plenty of dynamics. Competent all round musicianship especially the guitar solo on 'All I Need' which has that Santana/Dave Gilmour feel to it. Well worth a listen if you like modern acoustic style music along the lines of James Blunt, David Gray and Jack Johnson.
