The Jellydots have just finished a 13 song album called “Hey You Kids!” “Hey You Kids!” was recorded in June of 2006 with Mark Addison at his Aerie Studio in Austin. Jim Wilson mastered it in his new home, Airshow Mastering in Boulder, CO.
“Hey You Kids!” is a compilation of all the hits songs by The Jellydots over the last four years with three new songs (Captain Sleep, Bicycle, and Three is a Magic Number.” Tracks 1-9 are uptempo dance tunes designed to wear your kid out. The album ends on a slow note with four soft and mellow tunes perfect for naptime. “Hey You Kids!” was recorded live with the band, so you’ll feel like you’re right there with them at a show.
Hey You Kids! has just been voted number seven in the
Fids and Kamily Poll top 16 albums of 2006.

Not bad for an album with an October 2006 release!
Here's an excerpt by Bill Childs of
Spare the Rock Spoil the Child:
#7: Hey You Kids! - The Jellydots
"No album this year had a better opening song than Hey You Kids! from the Austin, Texas-based Jellydots. “Bicycle,” evoking the joy of being on a bike, whether you’re a kid or a grownup, is simply an exquisite song from start to finish. And who hasn’t wanted to ride a bicycle on the sea or in the sky?"
Here's what some of Doug's friends had to say:
"...make sure you send an email when you play again, gonna bring some of the folks from work. phenomenal album, my friend!"
-Derek Brown
...Rock on dearest!!! You WILL be rich and famous one day, cuz you deserve it!

It Rocks!
author: Wendy BurksLove the guitar, as does my 4 year old son. And the lyrics are clever and interesting. Great music that doesn't drive you crazy!!
Austin's Gift to the World
author: AustinChickHmmm....so I see the rest of the world has discovered the Jellydots! I have been a fan since I saw them play the Austin City Limits Festival back in 2003...they are wonderful, simply wonderful. Doug has a beautiful voice and the lyrics are perfect.
Family Rock and Roll
author: RogerI have a one year old and my wife and I are trying to get him used to various styles of music. We have been listening to a local kids rock and roll program in the Portland area, and just loved the Bicycle song. The biggest selling points is the various styles of music that Doug plays on this album.

Thinking this music is a bit more like Foo Fighters maybe. Some of its art is a bit lost on my nearly 2 toddler, but my nearly 30 brother thought it was pretty cool.
worth the hunt for the album
author: Sueheard on NPR, took a while to track down. Worth the hunt! Less funky than They Might Be Giant's, but just as fun and even good for grandparents.
Great listen for all ages!
author: MollyI'm 5 years old and I love the race car song, Mr. Gloom, and the bicycle songs best.
The Jellydots are awesome.
author: IanI am 7 years old. Hey you kids is really lively music. If you are a kid and you like lively music, then this is the CD for you. It's like a lot of fun rolled into songs.
A copy for us, a copy for our first-grade teacher daughter
author: Dave MillsParticularly like "Bicycle." The Denver Children's Hospital sponsors a three-day bicycle ride in the Rockies every summer. Our little team, called The Kidney Kruisers, will play "Bicycle" a lot while we peddle over the peaks. It'll motivate us. We also sent a copy of the CD to our daughter, a first-grade teacher in Jackson Hole. She's sure her kids will like the songs. Thanks.
Cool indie kids music
author: NealNot really familiar with kids music as my wife is still pregnant with our first child, but this CD has some really nice kid-friendly rock that has to be better than most of the other kid stuff out there. The bicycle song is just awesome and the rest is clever and totally listenable for adults.

I heard about the Jellydots on NPR and bought the cd for my godson. I typically find the majority of children's music grating but not this cd. And more importantly my godson liked it, too.
Absolutely wonderful!
author: JuHeard about it on NPR and enjoyed it so much that I bought 4 copies of the cd to give to my nieces and nephews. While we sing along to it together we can all enjoy the music and lyrics! Lake Rules is my favorite. Mahalo to the Jellydots for pleasing both the kids and the adults!
It's fun. Get it.
author: JaredWe started with The Wiggles and TMBG, but my wife and I, as well as our son, were ready to try something new. I heard the NPR story, did some research, pulled the trigger on this cd (and a few others), and we all are pleased. The lyrics are meaningful without being pretentious. The music is poppy without being lame. It’s hooky and gets in your head, but that’s ok because it’s fun and not annoying. My almost 3 year old likes it. He asks for “the bicycle songs” a lot. It was nice to have something new to listen to during all the long drives to and from holiday gatherings.
Jellydots creates music for kids that rivals the grown-up stuff.
author: Christina TremusiniThis CD is fun and the music is enjoyable for adults, too. The lyrics make us laugh! Thank you for creating music that we can listen to over and over!
My son loves this CD
author: ParentGreat musicianship, funny lyrics, and works well for adults and preschoolers. I think that they sound a heck of a lot like the Foo Fighters without the cuss words. My wife and I can't believe that all three of us like this album. It has enough punk sensibility for me, enough talk about bicycles and cookies for my 3 year old, and catchy grooves my wife likes (not much of a music fan, usually). This CD will be CD baby's bread and butter for the next year, especially since this record was featured on National Public Radio. Expect it to go gold, seriously.
This is a great
author: VinnyThis is so cool. Writing songs from a childs perspective. If I were a kid it would be awesome to have you as music teachers. Many children and parents will get a kick out of this. Great job
This is awesome music. My grandson will listen to nothing else!
author: Pop-Pop BobAfter hearing this music on NPR, I had to get a copy of the CD for my grandson. He doesn't like to talk much and has been chattering Jellydots and lyrics of the songs ever since he first heard it Christmas morning. His grandmother and two uncles love the music too. Thanks for creating such a great sound.
Great for kids and parents too
author: ShawnI heard a few songs from this CD on NPR then purchased several copies as gifts for many friends. The parents were thrilled to find music that their children loved and was equally pleasing to them. We are all looking forward to their next release.
best cd ever to exist
author: Sebastian (Sonia's Daughter)so, basically, my mom bought "Hey You Kids!" for me and i love it. i love it A LOT. i have listened to it everyday. and...my favorite songs are: - bicycle - mr. cookie - hey you kids! - mister gloom - i'm not ugly (you're not either)
MMMMmmmmm....Jellydots.....
author: JohnnyGreat record, truly. The song Bicycle will creep ito every crevice of your brain... you will rock out to it while driving... you will sing it loudly while grocery shopping...you will hum it in your sleep...IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR A RIDE!!!

Linda loves CD Baby and the Jellydots
author: LindaGrand daughter is only 11 months and I think I enjoy this CD more than her! Great music for all. Thank you, Jellydots.
Great for the whole family
author: Alice HouseI bought this CD for my 6 year old grandson but I love it and his dad can't stop listening to it. Great CD!
great cd, great service from cd baby
author: David DanielThis is a wonderful cd. I bought it to help counter the effect of my twelve-year-old's musical influence on my five-year-old. They both love it and have started to learn the music together--which is a remarkable thing. And the lyrics are a scream.
The Jellydots might just change a few families' lives.
author: ZooglobbleHey You Kids! is a fine showcase for Doug Snyder's abundant songwriting skills and voice and the adept musicianship of the trio. If you have any affinity for power-pop and indie-pop, you need to check out this album. It's too good to let Austin have all the fun.
This is it, folks... the future of Kids' Music.
author: http://www.kidsmusicthatrocks.blogspot.com/This is it, folks. You're looking at, and will soon be listening to, the future of Kids' Music. Like trying to find the horizon from the shore through a misty fog, genre lines have become so blurred that soon we can simply say, this is music. Period. The fact that this music can't be shoved into a specific category speaks volumes of the increasing confidence in kids' taste and intelligence, that you don't have to skimp on talent or effort just because it's an album for children. In fact, more and more artists are putting extra effort into children's music because of the fact that it's a kids' CD. So, welcome to our world, Jellydots! a band so good it's a shame they're not pop stars, but, luckily for kids' music fans, are guaranteed to be h-u-g-e within the next year. If you need a musical peg upon which to hang this unique hat, think Jason Falkner playing Schoolhouse Rock songs with Elliot Smith's writing help ... and we'll come back to that later. On "Hey You Kids!", yer gonna hear songs about the important minutia of childhood memories: a square of sunlight on the bedroom wall, the blue-green eyes of a new kitten, using both hands to eat a cookie, the longing plea for one more glass of water in order to stave off sleep. But hidden within these deceptively simple superpop kids' songs are messages of self-importance, of the assurance of being comforted, of retribution and its consequences, of the humanizing effect of connecting with others on a personal level, ... and all of this in a voice not heard since the Schoolhouse Rock series. Those writers, as well as Doug, have the innate ability to speak the thoughts of children in a child's own articulate voice, free-flowing and imaginative, full of wonder and with an eye for detail, details that are especially meaningful to children. So, try to find a better pop song than "Bicycle", c'mon, I dare you; then discover the consequences of washing a cookie in the sink in "Mr. Cookie". Dig the instrumental bridge near the end of the title tune and try not to dance with glee; then groove to the Tuff Gong vibe of "Lake Rules", and relive the unabashed joy of a day on the water (with a wink at The Bee Gees). Oh, the lyrical and musical brilliance of "I'm Not Ugly (You're Not Either)", a tune that verbally wraps around itself, and is most like a Schoolhouse Rock song than any other on the album. And I can totally see a crowd of Second-Graders going absolutely apesh** when they hear "Race Cars Go" rev up! The partying continues with "Three is a Magic Number" and its eyeball-blistering guitar solo. The last four songs on the CD will soothe your little one into blissful slumber, including the impossibly beautiful "Captain Sleep", and the achingly sweet album-closer "My Blanket", whose lyrics include the lines: "Stellar bits and particles that make up you and me / We could float around and settle down inside a symphony / Some day, and that's where we would stay / You'll be E and I'll be A". Yes. The Jellydots are actually the project of Doug Snyder, a musician and songwriter based in Austin, Texas, an appropriately creative home for a group like this. "Hey You Kids!" is more or less a compilation of Snyder's best tracks from the past few years, stemming from guitar instruction classes he conducts with children. And since the basic tracks (drums, bass, rhythm guitar) were recorded together, all the songs keep their "right there in the same room" feel (the drums are especially tasty). The three new tunes on "Hey You Kids!" - "Bicycle", "Captain Sleep" and a cover of the classic "Three is a Magic Number" - are beyond wonderful, and if that's the new stuff, who knows what this guy's capable of?!? If you're anywhere near Texas, check out the Jellydots, it may be the last chance you have to see them play live before they become megapopular. They could equally rock the crowd at both the SXSW Music Festival and the World Cafe Kids' Stage. Explore the Jellydots MySpace site and check out their television performance, featuring David the Dancing Donkey. And while you're at it, buy five copies of "Hey You Kids!", give one to your local library, give three to your closest friends, and keep one for yourself and/or your little ones and play repeatedly. It'll make the world a more beautiful place.

author: Parent: Wise Austin MagazineThe Jellydots “Hey You Kids!” Although this is The Jellydots’ third CD, they’re releasing it as their debut album because they’ve remixed and remastered many of their older tunes, and have added some new songs as well. Local music teacher Doug Snyder, the band’s founder, says the CD is meant to introduce kids to various musical styles. That’s true: the CD features everything from fast-paced rock to smooth ballads. The song Bicycle sounds like something straight out of the 80s (read: parents will enjoy it—especially the line When I was 9-years-old, I had my bicycle. Now that I’m 31, I think it’s just as fun…) while Three is a Magic Number will take adults back to Saturday morning Schoolhouse Rock while teaching kids to multiply by 3. The Jellydots’ musical style is similar to They Might be Giants—fun and upbeat with odd but interesting lyrics. We can’t wait to see the dance/exercise video that the band plans to release to accompany this CD.”
