notes
Don’t Eat Pork is a distance cousin to Vaudeville era songs that Lampoon Jewish stereotypes and made fun of them. Pop songs of the era that were written and performed by Jews. This phenomenon was not a strictly a Jewish affair, as pop music of the Vaudeville era was a melting pot of Jews, Blacks, Irish, German, Italians, and other ethnic groups creating entertainment based on mocking of their own stereotypes.
The icing on the cake was singing and speaking in the accent of the group being lampooned. Like the pig on the CD cover, the Alter Rocker (a Jewish Jimmy Buffet} brings home the bacon or in this case the Schmaltz.
Don’t Eat Pork comes from real Temple life experiences of the Alter Rocker. “Don’t Ogle My Kugel” was inspired by an elderly man at the Oneg Shabbat Table. After a service, he was stuffing food in his pockets and his mouth while shoving away anyone foolish enough to reach for the same delicious morsels.
Don’t Eat Pork, the title song, was inspired by members of our Chavera. They insisted on group meetings in Restaurants where traif was served and fresed this forbidden food.
Bupkus Blues was inspired by a Chabad Rabbi’s phone conversation where he was extolling the low price he paid on a purchase he made. Moshiach Will Be Commin is a rockin spiritual parody of Chuck Berry and BTO.
The pig portrayed on the CD Cover was not harmed during the creation of this CD and rumors of him being turned into Bacon Bits are entirely untrue.
The second half of the CD is filled with the Bar Mitzvah experience from the various family members personal perspectives. Here's To Bubby and Zadie, Bar Bar Mitzvah and My Child
You may have heard these songs performed live by
THE ALTER ROCKER & THE CORNED BEEF RANGERS at the Laugh Factory on Sunset Blvd, The Israeli Festival, Santa Barbara Jewish Festival, Schwartzie's "Not A Christmas Party", one of many Chabad events a summer Camp, old age home, Community center or a Jewish event in your area. Jeff Janning aka The Alter Rocker's other Jewish CD is a progressive new age CD titled American Jew, is also available at CD Baby, and Best Buy

When I first heard this CD I was suprised. It is do different from the usual Jewish Music. It is the bomb. I played it for friends and we laughed so hard. Several months later my little brother was starting to study for Bar Mitzvah so I played the Bar Mitzvah songs. It got him inspired, he was on with the hook up. This Rocker guy performed songs from this CD and his other CD American Jew at the LA Israeli Festival in May they were as good live as the CD. Hook up your peeps
Great Bos Mitzvah or Bar Mitzvah gift..very funny
author: Sarah PearlmanWe laughed and laughed listening to the funny stuff on this "Pork" CD. We shared it with friends and now when ever I we phone each other we always sing a few bars of the Kougle song and laugh. It always makes my day. Such sillyness. I purchased this and Jeff Janning's more serious work American Jew and gave them as Bos Mitzvah gifts to my sister daughter. She loved them both. Needless to say I was pleased. Great gifts.
