Watch CDBaby for Jed's new album, SANDS OF ABERDEEN to be released in Nov of 2008. Jed is joined by the Lonestar Stout band members; Jaime Marum, Mason Brown, Hugh Morrison and Pete Dawson. The album is produced by Paul Mills for Boston Road Records.

In the first four months since its release MILES FROM HOME was listed among the Most Played Albums on the FOLK DJ Radio Playlist, with 125 DJs reporting from a dozen countries.

The album has made Rich Warren's "PICK HITS" and "CD of the WEEK" lists (Rich is host of nationally syndicated "The Midnight Special" from WFMT Radio, Chicago). It has been selected for playlists by Fiona Richie for her worlwide syndicated radio program, "The Thistle & Shamrock - by Mike Harding for his internationally broadcast BBC2 programs - by Ed Mac Donald for his widely syndicated show "SIDETRACKS" and a number of other syndicated programs on NPR.

ALBUM DESCRIPTION:

MILES FROM HOME is a repeat musical collaboration among Jed Marum and friends, Brian McNeill (Battlefield Band) - and producer Paul Mills (Stan Rogers and many many others). The album also features Tom Leighton (Mark Haines) as a guest performer.

The instrumentation on MILES FROM HOME is guitar based, with some very fine guest performances by Brian McNeill on fiddle and concertina and Tom Leighton on accordion and piano. Other instruments include upright bass, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, banjola, resophonic and high-tuned guitars. The songs are mainly original and offer a rich variety of stories and acoustic styles. The stories are Irish, Scottish and American.

Jed Marum is a popular performer at Folk and Celtic venues throughout North America. He is known as a gifted singer, a refined musician and a talented songwriter.

In recent travels, Jed has been a headliner at a number of the nation's festivals, including The North Texas Irish Festival, Chicago Gaelic Park Irish Festival, Mississippi Scottish Games, British Isles Festival of Ohio, Celtic Nations Festival of Louisiana, Texas Scottish Festival and many other regional festivals around the US.

Jed has a strong and distinct guitar-style that is powerful, percussive and musical. He is an accomplished banjo and harmonica player as well. Folk music producer, Paul Mills said, "Jed is a fabulous singer who knows how to communicate a lyric. He writes songs with great melodies and can skillfully interpret them as well as works by other artists."

    I am a long time Brian McNeill fan and stumbled onto this Jed Marum CD while researching Brian's Celtic music. What a lucky break for me! Jed Marum is a fine songwriter and a great singer and Brian's work on the album adds so much. This CD has such a nice blend of Celtic and American folk styles, and a super bunch of songs!

    Our NPR station played West Texas Wind on the late show as I was driving home from work. My first reaction was, Who does that sound like (John Denver)? My second was visualizing his poetry... soaring, huge sky, home, love... windmills and mesquite, flat desert, rugged canyons, rocky mountains, heat and cold, blazing sunsets and blue full moons... did I mention the huge sky? everything good West Texas is to us who live here. Then the rich arrangement (is that a 12-string?) in waltz time, flowing, romantic, infectious. A new anthem for the Lone Star state!

    We first heard portions of this CD on an NPR "Thistle & Shamrock" broadcast a few months ago and quickly put it on our "wish list." My husband, a retired music teacher, found the cord changes in Mary Magill (spelling?) especially interesting and proceeded to analyze them! What a nice blend of Irish and folk conjuring up images of early Irish immigrants who helped tame our country. Thoroughly enjoyable.

    I love this album! I listen to it all the time, and love every song. It starts out great, and just gets better. It surprises me how each song tells a new story, and how each time you listen you get more from the song. The players are all excellent, the arrangements simple and the production exquisite. This gets my vote for album of the year.

    I had never heard of Jed Marum and therefore wasn't expecting this CD. I didn't expect to find an entire CD that doesn't have a bad song on it and that contains 5 (5!) gems that I listen to over and over again. The diversity of the music is impressive but not distracting, the lyrics/vocals are engaging, the instrumental portions are a joy to listen to. In short - a wonderful discovery!

    I have two of Jed's earlier CD but this is easily his best yet ... and it may be one of the best one ever in this genre. The lyrics, the melodies, the playing, the arrangements, production, and the packaging - this is surely one of the best CD's you will hear.
