notes
Four years in the making and staying true to her Louisiana musical roots, mutli-award winning children's book author and musician, Johnette Downing collaborated with internationally acclaimed Jimmy LaRocca's Original Dixieland Jazz Band to record DIXIELAND JAZZ FOR CHILDREN to introduce children of all ages around the world to the joyful sounds of Dixieland Jazz; the music they heard growing up as children in New Orleans. Nineteen original songs blend the upbeat, happy sounds of Dixieland Jazz with lyrics for children and their extended families. It is their hope that this authentic and innovative recording for children helps keep the tradition alive with a new generation of Dixieland Jazz lovers.
Music historians may recall that the Original Dixieland Jazz Band made history by recording the first ever Jazz recording titled “Livery Stable Blues” in 1917. The Original Dixieland Jazz Band has performed internationally in such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center, and on February 8, 2006 the Original Dixieland Jazz Band was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Johnette Downing has received eighteen national awards for her music and books and has performed in eleven countries. Her seven CDs and two books have garnered reviews in Grammy.com, Nick Jr. Magazine, Parening Magazine, Washington Post, School Library Journal, the Los Angeles Times and many more.
