notes
Town & Country engages the conversation between history and the present, between roots and the fruits, between the bit of town and the bit of country that is in all of us. John-Alex Mason explores these ideas with danceable grooves, masterful slide work and interpretations of rare songs from America’s past that compliment slow-core acoustic and rocking one-man band originals. Rooted by his love of Delta, Piedmont and Hill Country Blues, Mason delivers stunning solo performances on both his resonator guitar and his electrified one-man band rig. Deep, hypnotic vocals alongside sweet songwriting elevate and unite the 15 tracks, 7 of which are original compositions. This is the first nationally distributed title by Mason who was called by long-time Muddy Waters’ guitarist Bob Margolin, “One of the deepest young cats on the scene today.” Engineered with the listener in mind, Town & Country was mastered by multi-Grammy winner David Glasser and is an HDCD. Deep Country Blues Acoustic and Electrified!

town and country
author: rob hooglandbeautiful, soulful, versatile and mature album that comes straight from the heart of the artist.Anyone who has but the slightest like of blues music can go out and get this album without hesitation. You will not be let down. This WILL touch your heart, because John Alex Mason is a man with a great, beutiful heart, the Heart of America. And this is where his music is coming from, uncompromised, honest and intense. When he sings about New Orleans, you'll hear the tears in his eyes, and you'll feel yours too. When you hear him hugging Robert Johnson, you'll feel the joy of being with Robert in a 30's juke joint with a shot of whiskey. When he sings about travelling, you'll feel lonely too. When he sings about the problems in this world, you can't help but thinking to yourself:"what can I do to help make it at least a little better?"When he sings about Locomotive trains, you can't help but joining in and feel the rythm and dance. When he's singing about how he's asked a girl to "stay all night, stay a little longer",you'll.......Well,you'll have to find out for yourself, because that song is not on the album. This is an elektrifying and arousing album that shows that John Alex Mason is at his very best when he's doing music with the one-man band. It's a treat to listen to this CD and an even bigger treat to go out and see him on stage.I for myself most certainly do hope to see him again one day.(I'm living in Europe,so it's not that easy for me to just hop over the Big Pond, but I'm saving some money allready.......)
