Heartbreaking cinematic folk pop

"I can't not do this-
this is what I know how to do"

At a time when he was considering
quitting music altogether, this came
to Rich as he watched one of his major
influences, Neil Finn, take the stage. As Neil
performed, Rich knew that major record deal or no,
rockstar lifestyle or no, recognition or no, this man
had to be doing what he was doing creatively. It's
what he knows how to do. Rich
identified.

Like Finn, Jacques crafts achingly beautiful pop
music,
abundant in nuance, where the subtle gesture has more
weight than the bombastic cliche. Rich is a very
accomplished guitarist, doing sessions for a wide
range of styles, yet favors the perfectly placed note
over
showy excess.

Rich has paid some dues. He was a founding member and
writer/guitarist for Blackbird/Sire record's band
Brownie Mary, and
co-writer of their single "Naked". He worked closely
with
Pittsburgh's celtic pop icon Karl Mullen. He has
logged road time with Canadian Artist Chantal
Kreviazuk, performing on the Tonight Show. It was with
Chantal that he met drummer/producer Bill Lefler who
shares a common writing/recording philosophy. "Working with Bill is great.
We don't have to talk about what
we're doing, it just happens."

Technicolor Movies is Rich's current release. The
theme that binds it's six songs is, according to Rich,
the "friction of being human". The process Rich and
Bill utilized in bringing it to life was effortless at
it's best, and solidly grounded in fulfilling what the
song itself asked for. Even a cursory listen reveals
that they have succeeded in bringing the writer's
inner world honestly outward and projecting it to us
in cinemascope.

About his writing, Rich is candid. "The best songs
come when you find yourself writing faster than you
know what you're writing. How honest you're willing to
be
is how good it is." That being said, he easily and
naturally collaborates with others. "I have to
approach each writing project openly and let things
come. The same Ideas never seem to work twice." As he sings in
Please don't break my heart, "Some things aren't worth
asking, you have to go by feel."

In this current indie climate of an excess of product,
it's hard to sort through all the gravel to pick out
the gems, but in Rich's case the obvious quality will
set him apart from the rest. It's what he knows how to do.

    Get this new EP of Rich Jacques. He is one of those artist you come across from watching another artist's act but he wows you just as much. Rich's lyrics are emotional but not heavy to where you are drowning. He has a way of catching your very thoughts you didn't know you were thinking. Silky voice that's not overpowering and fits the songs well. With each song, one realizes this is one artist to keep an eye out for.

    Who hasn't made deals with God? Jacque's masterfully crafted lyrics matched with sometimes folksy, sometimes ethereal music provides the listener with something truely rare-a set that gets better with each listen.
