notes
Paul Iwancio (pronounced "eye-wan-see-oh") has just released his first full-length CD Open Heart Stories. The songs cover topics such as hope, acceptance, joy, love, and gender issues. Paul's music is a great blend of folk & funk: contrasting sweet ballads with rhythmic smart-hook rockers. His live shows are heartfelt, upbeat, energetic fun events. Paul is also well known in the region as the president and founder of The Baltimore Songwriters Association, a 501(c)3 organization.
Paul performs in solo singer-songwriter mode, as well as with the duo "Take Two" featuring jazz vocalist Nita Paul Callihan and the quartet "The Art of Meaning" with chromatic harmonicist Carl Rosetti.
*Finalist at The Avalon Music Festival 2004
*Sem-finalist at Mountain Stage Newsong Festival 2004
*Honorable Mention in Mid-Atlantic Song Contest 2004
"This is the perfect disc for a fan of great lyrics and sweet melodies. Everything about this album is worth taking the time to hear. He's got that magic happening and knows how to write songs" Susie Mudd, Music Monthly
"With well crafted lyrics and melodies, this CD is full of numerous gems, speaks of hope, truth to self, and the power of friends and communities. It bears eloquent witness to the values Paul has upheld in Baltimore for more than a decade." Bob Steele, Baltimore Outloud

Stunning Debut CD!
author: Adam BookPaul Iwancio is an amazing songwriter. His songs rock you with their rhythms and draw you in with their lyrics. Add the cool, jazzy vocals of Nita Paul-Callihan and you have a real winning combination. My favorites on this CD are "These Shoes", "Thesaurus", and "Perfect Enough" (written by Nita Paul-Callihan) but every song is a stand-out on this CD. His version of Sarah Pinsker's "Twice the Prince" adds a new dimension to a song that was already one of my all-time favorites. He also includes exceptional covers of songs by Baltimore area singer-songwriters Jane Wellington-Beatty and John Seay. Very strong debut.
A celebration. Paul Iwancio's love of life bursts through in this CD.
author: Kenny Trainor, The Bergen Record, Hackensack, NJOpen Heart Stories is a celebration of love, life, and the belief that each and every one of us has the ability to improve our lives and make the world a better place. Paul Iwancio's love of life bursts through in his music, beginning with the first cut, "The Revolution Begins (Inside of You)," which I listen to every morning to remind me that I'm one of those people who can make the world a better place. Every song has a strong, sing-along melody, particularly tunes like "Perfect Enough," a throwback to the Tin Pan Alley days of Hoagey Carmichael; "These Shoes," a song inspired by the songwriter's own footwear collection; and a personal favorite, "True Worth," which reminds us that many valuable things in life don't have a price tag. But the songs I like most on the CD are two love songs, "Morning Glories" and "My Oasis." Both are written straight from the heart, which, after all, is where "Open Heart Stories" should come from.
Open Heart reveals Paul's soul....
author: Georgie JessupI just listend to Paul's Open Heart Stories. I have heard him perform many of these songs at various live events and John Grant as co-producer has helped Paul put a fine CD together. The Revolution Begins and ...With-Friends were highlites for me. ...Big Man is also a very strong song, (wonder if he was refering to folks like George Bush...ya think). I also enjoyed the songs of some very talented local artist that Paul covered. Gee I wonder if the revolution will start on the road to Trinidad ;)? Just make a left hand turn at Post Op Freeway and yer there.
Smooth, relaxing and uplifting...
author: SteveI heard it for the first time this morning and I have listened to it over and over again. The music acts as a thrust of happiness to one's soul and fills you with the spirit with which Paul sings.
