notes
Tomo Iwakura was born in Great Britain. When he was twelve years old he began to learn the guitar with Iwao Suzuki. After his completion of a faculty of law at "Gakusuin Univaersity" in Tokyo he studied the guitar with Michael Koch at the "Peter-Cornelius Konservatorium" in Mainz, Germany. He finished his study of music in 1997 with an excellent degree. Also he took lessons of N. Yepes, J. Bream, A. Pierri, D. Russel. He won the first prize and a special prize at "Gakusei Guitar Competition" in Tokyo and is also a prize winner of "Concours International de Guitare" in Ile de Re, France. Concerts in Germany, France, Peru and Japan. Since 1989 he lives in Germany.
John Dowland (1563-1626) was one of the most known as a composer, a lutenist and a singer in europe at his time. His composed many songs, and also about hundred pieces for lute. The Most of them are dance music like Pavans, Galliards or Almains, but he wrote also as name of "Fantasie" (Fantasia, Fancy, Farewell) piece without forms of dance.
Many Fantasies of him are exact polyphony, and they ware probably the origin of "fugue" (J.S.Bach was born about 60 years later from death of Dowland). I think these are most comlicate polyphony music for lute (guitar). Clearly, they are made by the master of lute. It is amazingly that these wonderful music ware wrote over 440 years ago.
