Delightfully warm and engaging, her gutsy easy-listening vocals communicates her testimony well in her self-compositions. BORN ON A FARM NINE MILES NORTH OF ATHENS ALABAMA WHERE THEY
GREW COTTON..PEANUTS..SUGAR CANE AND CORN..IRMA YOUNG
LEARNED AT THE TENDER YOUNG AGE OF NINE WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO
WORK THE FIELDS HELPING HER DADDY “ BOBBY LEE BIRDSONG “ IN
THE SWELTERING HEAT OF SUMMER FROM DAYLIGHT TO DUSK BEFORE
HEADING HOME TO EAT A HOME COOKED MEAL THAT HER SWEET MOM
HAD PREPARED..AFTER SUPPER , THE WHOLE FAMILY WOULD GATHER
ON THE FRONT PORCH WHERE HER DAD WHO PLAYED A GREAT FIDDLE
WOULD PLAY TO THE DELIGHT OF ALL PRESENT WHILE IRMA WOULD
STEP DANCE A JIG OR TWO THAT MADE ALL HER FAMILY AND
NEIGHBORS CLAP THEIR HANDS AND GIGGLED FROM THE JOY OF IT ALL
IT WASN’T VERY LONG AFTER THIS THAT A MAN BY THE NAME OF
” BOB DONAVAN “ OWNER OF A RADIO STATION IN ATHENS INVITED THE
WHOLE “ BIRDSOND FAMILY TO APPEAR FOR A LIVE APPEARANCE EVERY
SATURDAY FOR A HALF HOUR PROGRAM APPROPRIATELY NAMED
“ BOBBY LEE BIRDSONG AND HIS GIRLS “..LATER ON MR.DONAVAN
BOOKED THEM FOR A SECOND RADIO SHOW IN DECATUR ALABAMA
WHERE THEY WERE A GREAT SUCCESS..LATER ON, IN A COMPLETE
BIOGRAPHY THAT I NOW PLAN TO WRITE I WILL EXPAND ON THE HAPPY
TIMES ( VERY FEW ) AND THE MANY MISERIES THAT IRMA HAD TO
ENDURE THROUGHOUT HER MARRIED LIFE..
