notes

"When you first sit down and play his CD ('The Sultan of Time') you are taken on a trip down memory lane, of bands such as The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, bands that had a magical spirit to the music and lyrics for which they wrote. The artis that brings this type of magical experience to his music is Ira Levin (Pron: EYEra LuhVIN)
-William Hodgson/Sidewalks Entertainment Television

Whether escapading as Uncle Eye (the Willy Wonka of children's music), inciting riots of elation from California to Scotland, or time traveling with the Rock Savant-Idiot Roll band Comfy Chair, Ira (EYEra) finds a way to bring an uplifting song into...oh...nine out of ten realities.

His music can be found so far on five recordings, including Elektra Record's compilation: Jump up and Boogie.

Practically born on the stage in Miami, Florida, he studied theater and music at F.S.U. While on his way to L.A. to become a comic actor, he decided to stay in Colorado to concentrate on writing music. When he did come to California he opeted for Berkeley, where he has had free reign to expand organically.

A great fan of Fats Waller, The Gershwin, The Beatles, Paul Simon, and Jethro Tull, EYEra seeks to infuse a classic sense of melody into his songs.

So far he has written music and lyrics for two CD's with Comfy Chair: Party on the Titanic and Live and Uncut, (www.flamingpie.com), his original play The Plant's Taking Over (with Simon Kaplan), music for Elie Wiesel's Trial of God, performed at the Rhinoceros Theater in SF, and his first children's CD Hippo on my Head, (which he recently showcased in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival).

With his latest effort The Sultan of Time, Ira reveals more of his spiritual and whimsical nature through the vehicle of Soulfolk: music for your atoms to dance to; sweet melodies to sing in the shower.) The Sultan's leading track Part of the Divine has been given honorable mention by the Northern California Songwriter's Association.

The Sultan encompasses the comedic with the poignant, the spiritual with the absurd, all the while maintaining a strong sense of self and the need to bring joy to the listener.

  • We love it!

Ira Scott Levin (aka Uncle Eye) is a rare find -- his acoustic music is accessible to children of all ages, whether geared toward kids or adults. This CD is wonderfully soulful. Ira has a versatile voice (ranging from sweet to growly) that reaches out and makes you feel the mood he is conveying. If you have kids, you will all love Hippo On My Head, as well as Hyperactive Talking Cows!

  • Awesome Disc...grows on you big time!!!!!

I spontaneously bought this after previewing the songs. If you enjoy acoustic music then this is the disc for you. What I enjoy is that some songs are deep, some are meaning ful, others are just pointless but fun and catchy. Extremely happy with the disc. Ira has a voice that catches the mood of every song. I actually give it a 4.5. Great buy all around. Good Job Ira!
