notes
Let's just say that the band members met at a doll collectors' convention in Montreal where one of them (undisclosed) got a distinction award. Very proud of his achievement, the lucky winner went on to chat with other contestants. One thing led to another and (intensive care) was born. Their unconventional songwriting, substantial arrangements and diversified influences (not at all restricted to music) makes the band's unique sound span a large spectrum of genres. With inevitable comparisons to 1970's prog bands (Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Emerson, Lake & Palmer) but also modern indie bands (Animal Collective, Sigur Ros) and even british stadium bands (Placebo, Muse), (intensive care) is constantly looking to create a sound and style of their own. To achieve that, they keep experimenting with pop and rock structures and elements.
***
In 2006, two months after they formed in Montreal, they were already featured on the New Music Canada Hotlist as one of Canada's young bands to watch for.
In 2007 --after a long recording and mixing process that took place in the dark and smelly basement of a meat-packing plant -- they self-recorded and produced their first 5-track EP, titled 2805.
In January 2008, they released All the people hear with me, a two-song follow-up at Sala Rossa in Montreal. This new offering hinted at their new direction ; one involving sirens, horses, fairies and evil dragons.
The band spent most of 2008 working with Jace Lasek on 5 tunes, that are now released as the Should We Go On ? EP. The EP is released in a digital format (through scratch-cards) as well as 100 limited edition home-made CDs.
They're recording three more songs with Lasek in the summer of 2009 and expanding the EP into a full-length record. Meanwhile the band will be playing several shows in and around Montreal in the spring and summer of '09
