One of the best things about owning your own business is that you never know who will walk through the door. Such was the case for Marc Rine when Jay Geils stopped into City Sounds, his music store in Gardner. Rines, who grew up in Acton and lives in Shirley, considered that day a dream come true. He was part of a fledgling band, The Installers, and the more Geils came in, the more he became interested. Seeing J. Geils at the Boston Garden in 1975 when he was 16, Rines never thought the guitar great would one day produce his record. But that's what happened on Nail It, The Installers' full-lenghth CD, which came out last month where Geils plays guitar on a few tracks. So when they open for J. Geils on New Year's Eve at the Bull Run, if you notice some similarities, you won't be mistaken. Rines, a bass player and writer, describes The Installers' sound as as classic rock combined with "Sunday Morning rhythm and blues." Stephen Clarke on vocals, Kevin Visnaskas on guitar, Jim Burns on drums, and Shawn McCann on keyboards all rocked out with Geils last year at the Bull Run and will so again this year. A disc to be truly proud of.
author: Metromome Magazine
The Installers are a four piece Massachusetts based rockin' blues outfit featuring singer Stephen Clark, guitarist Kevin Visnaskas, bassist Marc Rines and drummer Jim Burns. The group hooked up with the legendary Jay Geils to produce their debut offering Nail It and came away with a thireteen track project they can be truly proud of. The disc is packed with five originals and eight covers that bring back modern up-dates of songs by T-bone Walker, Ray Charles, Robert Cray and others. While the Installers remain true to the original renditions, they add their own brand of color and style to the songs.
In addition to Jay Geils' producing credits he also appears on guitar, playing slide, rhythm, and soloing on many of the albums cuts as well as arranging the horns in the song " But It's Alright." Guitarist Barry Calhoun and keyboardist Shawn McCann also make significant contributions to this fine outing from the Installers.
