notes
"Long Way Home", the awesome 8th disc from INDIGENOUS, featuring premier Native American blues/rock axeslinger/vocalist, Mato Nanji, is an outstanding musical document of classic, powerful, REAL blues/rock heavy guitar power trio grooves that are guaranteed to rock your blues away. “Long Way Home” is an excellent follow-up to their great “self-titled” disc released a few years back.
INDIGENOUS drew critical acclaim in 1997 with their independently released disc titled “Things We Do” and, since then, they’ve grown their following through steady recording and touring. Consisting of brothers Mato Nanji (guitar/vocals) and Pte (bass/backing vocals) along with their sister Wanbdi (drums/backing vocals), this Native American power trio live the blues “family style”. Blood is thicker than water and it shows in their awesome deep bluesy music. INDIGENOUS lays down songs with deep grooves and plenty of passion led by the way-kool bluesy heavy guitar swagger of guitarist Mato Nanji who’s scorching lead guitarwork and soulful deep-pitched vocals are showcased on every tune. Mato calls to mind S.R.V’s masterful guitar attack, reaching similarily combustible levels of intensity while maintaining total command over the instrument. Mato Nanji is no mere S.R.V. wannabe clone but the REAL thing when it comes down to authentic guitar hero status. Fans of awesome guitar-driven blues/rock riffage searching for the next “torch bearer” in the lines of JIMI and S.R.V. should definitely give INDIGENOUS a serious listen.
Excellently produced by Jesse Davey (HOAX guitarist), the talented guitarist/producer captured an awesome raw, stripped-down, live in the studio approach on the “Long Way Home” disc. Both Jesse and the band nailed down an outstanding set of REAL amped-up blues/rock riffage with fire and passion. A highlight on the disc is a mega-awesome low-dwon, deep, burning 8 minutes slow minor blues riff monster called “Six Feet Down” which will satisfy even the most hardcore blues/rock heavy guitar freak. Brother Mato digs deep on this awesome jam and conjurs the spirit of JIMI HENDRIX and STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN with his killer blues/rock guitar explosion.
The INDIGENOUS: "Long Way Home" disc is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to fans of JIMI HENDRIX, S.R.V., ROBIN TROWER, JOHNNY WINTER, RORY GALLAGHER, CLAPTON, THE HOAX, DOYLE BRAMHALL, JOE BONAMASSA, WARREN HAYNES, WALTER TROUT, CHRIS DUATRE, KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD, CRAIG ERICKSON, BUDDAHEADS, SKY HIGH with CLAS YNGSTROM, LANCE LOPEZ, VARGAS BLUES BAND, CHRIS AARON, VAN WILKS, MONTI AMUNDSON & THE BLUBINOS etc. and just about any other killer blues/rock axeslingers you have ever heard. INDIGENOUS is the "REAL" deal and Mato Nanji is definitely rite up there with the best of them.
It's time to get "REAL" and take an awesome "musical ride" with Mato Nanji and his killer band INDIGENOUS. If you dig smokin’ blues/rock guitar and soulful vox backed up by great songs and playing, tune into the the “Long Way Home” disc and experience the heavy guitar blues power of Mato Nanji & INDIGENOUS.

things we do
author: j. acevedoI have two of their best albums, circle and things we do. I plan on buying this one also. I saw them live in mt pleasant michigan. This was the best concert i have ever seen in person. INDIGENOUS are definetly rock and roll/ blues legends of our time. They will go down in history for that South Dakota blues sound. If you can please send me the next concet date.
Top Rated
author: Gregg McindoeI recently moved to South Dakota, and just did a CD Baby search by location to see what some of the local talent was like after a quick listen, this CD was in my shopping cart and Six Feet Down went right to my top rated and most played in my IPOD.
Powerful sound with strong vocals, worth a listen.
author: Pete MatthewsPowerful full sound accompanied by strong vocals. This man has a great voice perfect for their sound. Working with Jesse Davey, former guitarist with The Hoax, legends here in the UK, seems to bring out the best of this band. well worth a listen.
Hard Rockin' !!
author: StarAwesome, Powerful, Passionate! This TRIO totally rocks! Full sound! Meaningful Lyrics! I was so impressed...I bought all of their past CDs too! Thanks guys (and gal)! Keep it up! (a fellow South Dakotan)! 8-)
Right on the Money !!!
author: TONY BELL [BadVoodoo]I first heard these guys a few years back and was impressed then but this album is something else !!Mato has matured into a Guitarist who would stand proud next to any of the "Greats".....Hendrix,SRV,Chris Duarte etc.The power backing laid down by his brother and sister are equally inspiring.Congratulations also to Jesse Davey[Hoax]for an excellent production.Speaking as a lover of the Native American culture, you guys have done your people proud!! I'm not sure which tribe Indigenous represent but i'm sure both Geronimo and Sitting bull would have been impressed !! Well Done.
WOW!!!!
author: Keir D.If you're into bluesy rock and roll...this is it. This band is INCREDIBLE!!!!
Accessable - not just SRV
author: MPrutzThis is a strong album. I must admit I was hooked by the SRV character - which is well done. After a couple dozen listenings there are many more things that stand out about this work. For one, that I listened to it that many times in about a month. Its very accessable from the beginning yet holds those subtle things that grow on you or that you learn over time. Its got staying power. Its well-produced for anther. There isn't a bunch of clutter going on. Well crafted material combine with great playing abilities by all to make a very pleasureable experiance. mp
EVERYONE GET THIS CD.
author: CRiveraTheir best yet. Mato's guitar is as intense as ever, and the rhythm section has now caught up. Pte's bass rumbles from the first track, "Well You Know," with its slow tempo and driving power. Wandbi has come forward to claim what's hers; check out the cannon-fire drumming on "Don't Let Me Go." The last time I heard drums played this hard was on Led Zeppelin's "When The Levee Breaks." Their playing on the 2003 self-titled cd was a sign of things to come. Mato's guitar is the star attraction, but it's good to hear the others step up. A really nice touch are the duets, Mato and Wandbi sharing vocals on "Awake" and "I'll Be Waiting," two very restful tunes, and very sweet.
Honest & Powerful Spirit of Indigenous
author: LunashamanReally the Perfect balance in the Sound, Cause this band give a real impression of natural roots in the Blues but with thw personal view of a great and sensible Native American Musician....Power and Hipnotizing Music.... LUNASHAMAN(SHAMANES;slp;Mexico)
- author: CD Baby
In the spirit of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lenny Kravitz, Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower but with the heart and mind of the Native American cause, Indigenous delivers some of the highest quality blues rock to come through here in years. With classically powerful, edgy blues drive, full-throttle guitars, hearty vocals and mountain-moving bass, this is one incredibly meaty album with a perfect trio sound that doesn't shy away from being as intelligent, detail-oriented and well-crafted as it is no-nonsense rockin'.
