Ian McDougall has wanted to put together this double CD set for a long time; he has always played and taught the trombone as a very vocal instrument and he wanted to perform some of the most famous opera arias with piano to illustrate how beautifully expressive the trombone can be. Pianist Robert Holliston did a fantastic job of helping Ian choose the passages right from the operatic piano scores, and Robert's thorough knowledge of opera helped to make the performances accurate.
The wonderful jazz pianist Ron Johnston has played in various groups with Ian for over thirty years, and this CD of Broadway hit songs played spontaneously by Ron and Ian is a treasure.
