(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Hooky pop songs with a pet rock feel. Also a couple of bleeding heart ballads: one with a really famous guy playing on it, and the other with a really old cello on it.

notes

What I said...

I was born in Cincinnati, OH 1963, although I don't remember that...

Moved to Naples, FL in 1973, by parents who were looking for sinus relief.

Played in a few bands in and out of high school, most fondly remember after high school, Youth In Asia (say it fast, get it?), a band with a punky new/wavy kind of sound...that's when I got my first taste of how good it felt to front a band, even if it was in two-toned hair and leather pants! And I'll bet you didn't know that "band fronting" actually had a taste.

Worked at record/music stores out of high school, then for a pool service company (I was the first female supervisor they ever had, I am woman, hear me snore)! I think that was when I first started wearing a sports bra, too...

Met Stephanie Callahan in 1989 at a softball tournament (uh, oh, you know what that must mean...) and formed Halcyon. (out of Play-Doh at first, but it didn't stand up well to the FL heat).

Moved to Tampa in 1990 to have access to a more metropolitan area for the music. (Yeah, it was just for the music).

Worked steady and partied hard for a large, devoted following that continues to this day. The following, and the partying.
Being in Halcyon has enabled me to travel the entire country many times over, including Alaska, and even did some extremely well received gigs in England. (It was nice to meet a real queen!) I've done festivals, cruises, TV, radio, office parties and even horse tracks! After 18 years, I seen and done an awful lot. Someday, I hope to tell Oprah all about it.

Hobbies and things I like: cooking/good food/cool restaurants/wine/craft beer/do I smell a pattern here?/water/boating/floating/beaching/weather/hanging in the back yard with something on the grill/yep, def. a pattern/art/ other people's music/

What somebody else said...with interjections from me (in parenthesis) (isn't that cool? In parenthesis is in parenthesis!)...
Deb Hunseder is a longtime Tampa Bay area favorite. (Favorite what)? She is highly popular as of the duo Halcyon with singing partner Stephanie Callahan, a collaboration which evolved from a chance meeting in 1989. (Chance meeting, is that what they call it these days)? They have played a wide array of shows– music festivals, benefits, bars, clubs, and even travel in Europe and Alaska, and developed a unique and fiercely loyal cadre (ooh, good word!) of fans who have now spilled over into second and third generations of listeners. (Oh my God, are you kidding me?!)

"In our 25 years of business here, they are by far our most consistent draw," says Tom White, owner of Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa. "You can be sure that any night Halcyon plays here we’ve got a good 400 to 500 people." (400-500 good n plenty drunk people)

Deb is now branching out as a solo artist, (I'm a tree, I'm a tree!) bringing along her trademark energy, showmanship, and irrepressible sense of humor. No one feels cheated at a Deb Hunseder show. (Unlesss I steal their wallet) Her exuberance on stage (and sometimes off stage) involves the audience in a very direct and personal way. (I'm also a professional breath checker) Her voice is strong, clear, and true, whether on a pull-out-all-the-stops rocker or on an intimate slow-burn ballad. (If I could only convey to you how painful it is when all of the stops get pulled out...) (...and a fast-burn ballad usually hurts much less)
.
While Deb, as part of Halcyon, has earned numerous awards and critical acclaim, she is real, honest, and down to earth. (If I wasn't, I'd be a fake, dishonest alien) Professionalism and a dedication always to give her best shines through on Deb’s first solo CD release, titled "Surface". Every song is solid and well-crafted, confirming her well-earned credentials as a songwriter. Coupled with her incredible vocal abilities, this CD is the perfect culmination of her musical journey so far. (OK, ya got me there, I give).

We listen to music as a means to be touched in some way. This one reaches right into the soul. Fun - Playful - Gripping - Powerful. Melissa Etheridge will always be important to our "family" but I think she's gonna to have to move over and make room for you Deb!

As with everything that she does, this is just another great effort on the list! I first heard Deb & Steph the same year I married my wonderful wife Ragan in 1990. We have foloowed them to gigs in Atlanta, Ga. and around Florida. Have vacationed together on an island and shared shots while riding a golf cart. Deb is not just a wonderful musician but a wonderful person. AND TRULY A ROCK STAR!!

  • "So Lucky"

Loved halycon through the years. Was happy to get at least half my fix! and it was exactly what I was looking for-especially the strong soulfull ballads. God she has a great voice for ballads!

  • Melissa watch out!
    author: Ivette

Before "Surface" all we listened to was Melissa. Ever since I heard Deb play in July.... I have not replaced the CD in my car stereo. She has an incredible voice which is demonstrated in every song and her guitar playing is magnificent. We have been waiting for you to come back to Jax-Oct 5.***** Buy this CD, you will not be disappointed.*****

  • As good as I knew it would be
    author: Melinda

I've been a fan of Halcyon for a long time and I especially love Debbie's energetic performances. She's a true entertainer! Her solo CD is great! I find myself humming her new tunes at work and I can't wait to see her live. YOU GO GIRL!!!

  • Heard you sing on Daytime, had to find you
    author: Sheila

Hello young lady. Your voice is amazing. Heard you sing on Daytime, but missed the intro. Wrote to the hosts to find out who you are. Your song, "My Reward" is amazing. If you released an album with those kind of ballads, I'd be the first in line. But then, I'm from a different era, I guess. Your voice is clear, strong, passionate. Please give us more ballads... on a single CD. Don't know if this will help my cause, but you live in FL... where folks come to retire. The ballad, as you sing it, appeals to the older generation. I won't say I speak for all of my generation, but my best guess is that I speak for a huge bunch of us. Keep on singing, little girl. You are wonderful.

  • Is Deb Reading My Mind or My Journal To Get Her Lyrics?
    author: Ragan Jenkins- www.raganjpix.com

I loved this CD so MUCH, I had to buy a 2nd copy for my best friend. The lyrics of these intriguing songs had me wondering if Deb had been reading my journal...or my mind. The musicianship displayed in the depth of the instrumental tracks is impressive, only to be outdone by the intensity, passion and comedic flair of this performer in person. You will find pieces of yourself and your life in her songs and then find yourself wanting to share this CD with friends, (and those friends will want to know where they can get THEIR own copy!)

  • AWESOME!!
    author: Jen

I have always been a Halcyon fan, but Deb really kicks ass in her solo debut! I cannot wait to see her live in concert again! Keep on rockin' girl! Love ya!

  • Great listen....
    author: Heather Noelle

This is a great cd. Love the music, love the lyrics. Deb is so open, so honest, so very touching. At times I feel like she's been spying on me and taking notes..... some very universal themes apparently. 'Invisible Girl', 'Everything I'm Not'....love those songs. 'The Ride' is the perfect end to this great cd.....'focus on the good stuff....will away the bad......'.

  • Excellent Solo Debut
    author: Lisa

This CD is an excellent solo debut, with some great new songs and a new take on some old classics. The songs are extremely catchy, and you want to listen again and again. You'll know all the words after the first few listens and will be singing them in the shower at home! I'm looking forward to the next solo album already.

  • Awsome
    author: Rhonda

This CD shows the true talent and beautiful voice of Deb. True life adventures and stories brought to life with music and fun. Must have CD.

  • author: colleen

The music on this cd, has a great flow to it all. Some of the songs are really upbeat, some are mellow. Great mix. This is a cd that you can listen to in any mood and feel uplifted after listening to it. Deb's music and especially on this cd, has a way of drawing you to it always wanting to hear more. Her voice is so pure, and certainly stands out, kinda cuts right through you. Awesome 1st cd, can't wait till the next one.

  • Surface is an briliant culmination of lyrics, vocals and good times!
    author: Amanda Toland

SURFACE is the perfect blend of songs that empower (A New Song), tug at the ol' heart strings (My Reward), heal (Goin' Thru The Motions). With every track you are brought to another place we have all been...whether it's a good time with friends, a breakup or a new love! The vocals are strong and soulful, a little mischievous...the lyrics full of incandescent wit. The instrumental stylings give the songs texture and atmosphere. I highly recommend SURFACE...it has not left my CD player since I bought it! Anxiously awaiting the next solo release from Deb Hunseder. Rock on!

  • This CD is awesome

This CD is really awesome! Deb sounds really great with her new band and it's great to hear some music that's honest and sincere and comes from the heart of a wonderful lady! She also sounds great acoustic. I've heard her older music and her new & this CD proves that she only keeps getting better & better!

  • absolute perfection

I love every song on this cd, I can connnect with so many of them in some way or another, the emotion that the lyrics bring out is incredible. I never really new what an amazing voice Deb has, she is truely blessed.

  • It is rare to find an artist that can make people feel as if she is writing abou
    author: D

Surface is an amazing cd from the first song. It is rare to find an artist who can make people feel as if she is writing about their heart. Deb is able to bring to life emotions and lessons and give it to us in song. This cd is full of songs that lift the spirit, challenge the soul and don't forget about the fun!! This cd has quickly become my favorite and you can no doubt feel the passion behind each song and word. Deb is a gifted artist and this cd proves it! I LOVE IT!!!

  • Awesome album leaves you with wanting more
    author: Binda

I personally love the CD and will continue to listen to it over and over. I think Deb has done an amazing job in writing and composing these songs that make this album a hit. A true artist is the one that write's music and pulls you into it. Listen to this album alone and without any interputions is the way to spin it....My favorite is Come on Over.

  • The music/lyrics on this CD and the new band ROCK!!
    author: Jason McNeil

The music and the lyrics on Deb's new CD are infectious. Once the CD hits your car stereo it's all you listen to for days and days. The band is unbelievable...great tight sound. The guitar solo on "A New Song" is fierce. The new pop/rock sounds of some of the tracks is a little bit of departure from Halcyon, but a welcomed one. Deb's personality is emblazoned in the music of this CD and makes her a solo artist to be reckoned with. Deb's ballads are clean, inspiring and speak to your soul. The best way to describe the experience of listening to the crisp, natural tone of Deb's voice is cathartic; producing a feeling of being purified emotionally, spiritually, or psychologically as a result of an intense emotional experience or therapeutic technique. This is a must have CD! Don't miss out on this one.

  • The more you listen, the more you love it!
    author: erin

Deb shines on stage, her voice is honest and clear and powerful and her quips in between well-crafted and insightful tunes keep the entire audience laughing. I wondered what her first solo album would bring, if her stage magic would translate...and the answer is a resounding YES! Give “Goin’ Thru the Motions”, “Red Door”, “That’s How it Goes” and “The Ride” a very careful listen (well hell, give all of it a good listen): they prove that Deb creates music that is not only enjoyable and consumable, but stuff that digs deep into the human experience and examines the emotions that are common to all of us in beautiful and joyous (and sometimes heartbreaking) ways.

  • I honestly have to say that deb is a great friend and buddy but, still she doesn
    author: Lauren Costanzo

I'll have to say that this cd sound's okay to me and I wish this artist should at least be more honest about her family/friends that love's her alot. Inspecialy me (Lauren) I've know her for 10 years ago and she is a great friend/ buddy of my family not only she's a solo artist I wish she resprct me more as a freind.
