(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Three members from the current David Lee Roth Band cut loose on this very melodic, yet powerful "pleasant to listen to" instrumental CD. It favors progressive rock but includes many style influences including fusion, funk and latin.

notes

The Hideous Sun Demons features:
Toshi Hiketa- guitar
James LoMenzo- bass
Ray Luzier- drums

*All members have toured the world with David Lee Roth and are featured on his latest CD "Diamond Dave" which is in stores now!

The group was originally formed by drummer Ray Luzier, an eight year member of the DLR Band and now with ARMY OF ANYONE (with Robert and Dean DeLeo from STP and Richard Patrick of Filter), at the end of 2001. He got together with an amazing guitarist named Toshi Hiketa, who had just moved from Japan, to "explore various types of music that both interested and inspired them." They had both been a fan of bassist James LoMenzo for quite some time. Ray had just brought James into the Roth Camp and told him about the band that he and Toshi had started. They asked him if he'd be interested in joining and he emphatically said "yes."
The three got together for formal writing sessions in Los Angeles and found instant chemistry, spontaniously composing material with ease.
This CD has very melodic guitar lines at times and blistering solos in others. The drums are dynamic, yet powerful and fierce. The bass is crafty and unique, featuring some beautiful solo spots.
It's not your typical instrumental record! There are many styles and moods on it. Some songs are very structured and some are jam orientated. Even if you've never bought an instrumental CD before, check this one out... you'll find yourself listening to it more than you think!

James is now the bassist in Megadeth and has recorded and performed with artists such as:
Zakk Wylde (Ozzy, BLS), White Lion, Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash (Guns and Roses), Pride & Glory, Ace Frehley (Kiss), David Lee Roth and many others.

Toshi has recorded and performed with: David Lee Roth, Tyed Dyed Junkies, Hiketa Trio and has been an instuctor at GIT (Musicians Institute) and Osaka School of Music in Japan for 5 years.

Ray has recorded and performed with such artists as: David Lee Roth (8 year band member), ARMY OF ANYONE, Dean and Robert DeLeo (STP), Richard Patrick (Filter), The Nixons, Jake E. Lee (Ozzy), John Lowery (Marilyn Manson), Billy Sheehan (DLR, Mr. Big, Niacin), Tony Fredianelli (Third Eye Blind), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio, Coma), Ritchie Kotzen (Mr. Big, Poison), Stephen Pearcy (Arcade, Ratt), Tracy G (WW III, Dio), Goaded, Michael Lee Firkins, Slash, Freak Power Ticket, LA's rock comedy act "Metal Shop" and has taught at PIT (Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA) for 9 years.

  • Always in my stereo

I've been listening to the Hideous Sun Demons album a lot these past few days. Wonderful album by some top notch musicians. It's so hard to pick a favorite song because they're all so good. I think anyone who likes music should check this one out. Nothing too hard, nothing too soft, and has everything from driving rock numbers like "Elevation" to more jazz/funk/fusiony stuff like "Osaka Funk" to really mellow and beautiful stuff like "4 Seasons." James LoMenzo is an excellent and IMO rather underrated bassist. He holds it down but whenever he gets a chance to solo, it's ON! Ray Luzier's drumming is complex while stil retaining musicality. Toshi Hiketa's guitarwork is stunning. As great as these guys are as Diamond Dave's backup band, it's awesome to hear them really come into their own with Hideous Sun Demons. This CD totally deserves its 5 star rating.

  • they still ROCK without Roth
