What would it sound like...if Frank Zappa hired David Byrne and half of XTC to play songs by the Commodores that were arranged by Robert Fripp?
Well...
Drummer, songwriter, skeptic, philosopher, and high carb proponent, George Hrab has released his 4th and bestest album yet entitled COELACANTH. Building upon years of playing and working with some of the most talented musicians on the east coast, George has handcrafted an amazingly fun and funky album full of tunes that make you smile, dance, and dare we even say it... THINK.
Combining the soul sounds of Motown, the greasy grooves and brass of 70s horn bands, and the nerd-rock/white funk of the Byrnian 80s, Hrab oversees his entire monstrous creation with a decidedly Zappa-esque skewed view. Insisting that the way to someone's brain is through their dance shoes, COELACANTH prides itself as truly being a collection of philosofunky biolojams for the skeptical zoologist's dance party.

Sweeet
author: Derek DadeyThis CD is pretty damned awesome. The music is great, but what really impressed me was the really original packaging and liner notes. Definitely worth picking up the CD vs downloading off itunes. Again supersweet CD, definitely worth the price of admission.
My fave Hrab album
author: CarriepI'll admit-I have a thing for brass and funky bass. Have ever since the band Chicago. So I was hooked from the first groove of Coelacanth. Be warned, though: you may start spontaneously dancing as you listen, so take the proper precautions.
Funkiskepticallidocious!
author: False ProphetWhen I heard "Brainsbodyboth" used in the trailer for the Skepchick's Calendar, I had to have this song. Killer opening track just sets up the other great funk tunes that follow. The high-octane jams that close this disc are simply untouchable. Bravo, Maestro Hrab!
Brilliant!
author: Shannon FarrellGeorge Hrab makes fantastic music that is upbeat, positive, and totally funkadellic. This CD has easily displaced nearly all of my other music for my listening choice. George's music works great for workouts or when you're feeling down, or just for fun.
Just Plain FANTASTIC!!
author: Darcy CowanThe only problem with this CD is it's too short. I could listen to this stuff for hours. The versions of B3 and Simple Simian on this are much more up-beat and fun than Vitriol. I see you there wondering, buy this CD, you won't be disappointed.
Jamming, funny, and intelligent - check this one out!
author: Lance MillerDo you see all the 5-star reviews? Maybe that should tell you something... I saw Geo and his excellent band live, then went after the CD's. This is some most excellent party music, and Geo delivers over the headphones as well. Sit down in a comfy chair, throw in the CD, and read along with the lyrics and liner notes. Very witty, and many times hilarious stuff. Check out the sample music - You'll love it.
suddenly, funky!
author: vblokethis album has suddenly made it into my list of top ten albums - fantastic stuff. Now all I have to do is find a B cubed lady friend to listen to it with.
First track is my new favorate song!!!
author: Tom SaylesI heard BrainsBodyBoth off George Hrab's Coelacanth CD on a podcast (can't remember which one, probably Accident Hash and/or Pacific Coast Hellway) and said that I've got to have that song. Since ordering my CD from CD Baby, I've heard it on several other podcasts including again on Accident Hash. George, ROCK-ON!!!
Why Does My Wife Want To Leave Me For George Hrab?
author: Jason SchmidtI heard Geo's interview on Skepticality a few months back - and immediately instructed my wife to go forth and purchase his work! Coelecanth was backordered at the time, but I have it now. Where to start on this CD? The lyrics are excellent, the music is excellent, and the drumming....wow. Topping it all off, Geo was inspired by "A Fish Out of Time", which is one of my favorite books. Hell, I like Coelecanths. I have a pewter one on my keychain (results in a lot of strange looks). I read books about it in gradeschool Now I can hear a Coelecanth Sigh - which is one of my favorite tracks on the album. What else can I say? Geo is the kind of guy I'd like to sit down and bullshit with - he's astonishing like me. Except for the musical talent, his lyrical skills, and (per my wife) his rugged good looks. Other than that we might as well be clones..... Jason
Score!
author: Dan-0two words...awe some
More fun than a barrel of GoldenPalace.com monkeys!
author: SpadgeThis is my favourite CD I have heard in a long time, every track is absolutely excellent! Geo's previous albums have been extremely good as well, but with the backing of the Philadelphia Funk Authority, his music goes to heights previously unheard of.
Very Cool
author: Gary WeinheimerI heard George's music on the Skepticality Pocast and was hooked. I bought this CD and Minutiae. I would have got all three but you were out. If you like music that puts some thought into what's being said, you'll like Gorge. His style is all over the place but it's all good. Peace. Gary
Great listen
author: Eric GunnersonThis is a great CD... Assuming that you like different musical styles and aren't put off by the skeptical approach.
Fun and Inspirational
author: Richard KlattThe message in this CD is an important one but is presented in a truly entertaining way. "Think For Yourself" is my new personal anthem.
Intelligent...Creative...and Fun!
author: Julianne MaloneyVoice and sound quality rate high with me. The musicians are talented, the lyrics witty. You will not be disappointed.
Energetic, invigorating, funny and GREAT!
author: Julie KulakEvery time I listen to this CD I feel refreshed. The lyrics are extremely well written, the band is phenomenal, and the music is just - well, I challenge you to listen without tapping your feet, playing drums on your desk or steering wheel or singing along. Funky, jazzy, brassy. George's voice is awesome, too - great to listen to, very interesting. These guys are having a great time and bringing you along for the ride.
