notes

Based in Orange County, California, THE HOT ROD TRIO has been consistently tearing up California and the West Coast. They've released three CDs, have been featured in many magazine articles, and been filmed for television. Their live shows are very dynamic and memorable. They look forward to seeing you at their shows, supporting live rockabilly music.

The high-octane music of THE HOT ROD TRIO began in 1991. Members Buddy Dughi, Suzy Dughi, and Pete Bonny enjoy playing all forms of rockabilly music, whether it's a revved-up hot rod song, a traditional finger-pickin' tune, a danceable swing number, or a crazy psychobilly song.

Make sure to also check out Buddy Dughi's solo release "Hot Rod Surf".

  • High Octane Rockabilly

This live album, with many tunes only available here, is a good way to hear how they sound on stage. You can definitely find a Setzer/Stray Cats influence in their music, not exactly the sound, Buddy’s voice is more rockabilly with hiccups and tremoloes, but in the general feel and the way to approach the genre. The set is a mix of classic covers (Johnny Cash, Johnny Powers, Collins Kid, Carl Perkins...), played with enough personality to be more than reproduction. Buddy plays great solos and make ‘em his own.The band’s self-penned songs stand well among the classics. I really loved “32” and “Demon’s Got A Motorcycle” on which Buddy’s guitar roars like an engine. If you like Brian Setzer’s 68 Comeback Special or The Reverend Horton Heat, you won’t be disappointed with this one.
