Hotpoint is first and foremost a dance band, characterized by their own brand of sizzlingly hot contradance tunes, high-energy squares, and string swing.
Playing an eclectic mix of high-energy original and traditional old-time and Celtic fiddle tunes, Hotpoint is known for their ability to maintain a deep groove at any tempo. The core of the band is the driving fiddle and clawhammer banjo of Mark and Hilarie Burhans, who have been playing music together for 28 years. Add to this the solid piano of Marlene Shostak and incomparable percussion (doumbek, djembe, kanjira, bones, shakers -- you name it!) of Mark Hellenberg, firmly grounded by Joe Crum on bass and didgeridoo, and you have a band whose legendary energy has made them a favorite at contradance weekends across the country. Gotta get it, gotta step it!
author: LaurelI have chronic fatigue syndrome. Bummer! But on the days I need to move Hotpoint makes me boogie on down and I can do things I usually cannot do... like move my body. This band is majorly awesome. Thank you to them for doing what the doctors couldn't do.
Hot Point is just that HOT!!
author: NancyHot Point is one of the best contra and old timey groups around. My dream is to attend one of their contra dances some day. The music is fabulous and an inspiration toward my playing fiddle and mandoln. I will look into purchasing the rest of their CD's in time. The mix of music they incorporate on this CD will please anyone with some foot tapping beats!
