Early country music, pre-bluegrass, but plenty of hot picking and harmony singing. Very reminiscent of recordings by Bill Monroe and Doc Watson, the Monroe Bros, the Louvin Bros, etc.

Album Notes

Touring and recording since 2003, The Hunger Mountain Boys have released four full-length albums and one vinyl single on their own Old-Fi record label. Their songwriting has won them national recognition, and their music has taken them from coast to coast, Canada, and Europe. Their spirited performances of eclectic traditional American music as well as their own compositions have put them on stages with many roots-based artists from Taj Mahal to Doc Watson and Ralph Stanley to Kathy Mattea, among others. “Very highly recommended." -Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine “Highly recommended.” -Country Standard Time “sweet pieces of twangy acoustic Americana with a '30's and '40's feel" -Boston Globe “These boys from The Berkshires are a little too melodic to be old-time and a little too rough hewn to be bluegrass.” -Dirty Linen Magazine “These are some nimble-fingered, barn-burnin’ country boys… or they’re time-travelers.” -Indie-Music.com

I saw these guys at a Bluegrass Festival a fwe years ago. I was impressed because they were the most unique band I'd seen in a long time. They made you sound like you stepped back in time 75 years, but the music still sounded fresh. Then I got their CD's and was blown away. Great songwriters, great musicians, great performers. This CD is a perfect mix of their live and studio material. Get it now.
