notes

Howard Livingston is a native of Kentucky, where he lived until approximately age12. Due to trouble within the coal mining industry, where his father was employed, the family moved to Marion, Indiana. Howard’s mother taught him to play the guitar at the age of 3. During his teen years, Howard played in a band called the Juveniles.

The Juveniles were not your average teen band. They became Marion, Indiana’s answer to the Beatles. They opened their own teen club, bought their own bus, and ended up as opening act for the Who. At the age of 18 Howard left Marion to attend a trade school in Chicago. Although he made the decision to end his music career and concentrate on a business career, his guitar never left his side.

While on vacation in Key West, Howard was smitten with a severe case of “Keys Fever.” For the next fifteen years, he spent every available minute in the Keys, learning to dive, snorkel, and lobster. Eventually, he was able to move to the Keys, which is when he started the band, Mile Marker 24.

Mile Marker 24 became the chosen name of the band because of its location, which is relatively central to the location of the band member’s homes. Everyone is a local.

Howard Livingston is a singer/songwriter living in the Florida Keys.

In 2005 Howard plunged back into the music scene with the release of his new CD Livin’ On Key West Time. The response has been remarkable. All songs on the CD were written by Howard and when you listen to it you can understand where his heart is. He is an island boy. In 2006 Howard released his second CD, Meet Me In The Keys. The story continues.

My first HL album - probably won't be my last. I found out about Howard when I was made aware of his tribute song to the Sinking of the USS Vandenberg. Great song!

  • Doesn't get better than this

My wife and I met them on a boat while they were waiting to offload their equipment for the evening concert on a floating dock. (they stole our seats!! :) Just kidding!!!) After we started to talking to them, they were such down to earth generally warm people and we ended up getting all 3 of their CD's. After we were listening to them on the way home...we wanted to go right back to the Keys and never leave. They all know how to bring the islands to you, no matter your location! Since then we've been to their performances in the midwest and they are never a dissapointment. Thanks for the great music and friendly smiles ever time we see you. I live in Southern California. Every year since 1984 I've been promoting an "End of the Summer Beach Party" I throw for my friends and my family with campfire and BBQ. I love music and I love burnin' Compilation CD's. In 1984 it was always "The Beach Boys"/with other songs like Surfer Joe, GTO, Little Cobra and even some from the soundtrack "Endless Summer". As we all have grown older it's been all of the above with added additions from Jimmy Buffett, Elton John's "Island Girl" The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "An American Dream" and we can't forget "Escape (The Pina Colada song)". Now we have all been through the ups and downs of raising children, making a living, still married or not married. We have taken cruises and noticed & enjoyed the island life. Today Country Music has entered the Beach and Island life with songs from Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, etc... My Compilation CD's have gone from "Surfer Girl" to it's Five O'Clock Somewhere. I met Howard Livingston & The Mile Marker 24 Band on Myspace. I've always believed Song Writers and Singers are great poet's. Songs can have a great relationship with a small part of Quantum Physics. The right song will transport you to a place that's only special in your own heart. Some times it's not even the words that take you there. It's the message the song has or just the song itself takes you back to a heart felt place. Howard Livingston & The Mile Marker 24 Band are great song writers and they're livin' the life style. I started with thier CD "Blame It On The Margarita's". Played it once and ordered "Meet Me In The Keys" and "Livin' On Key West Time". My little "End of the Summer Beach Party" started with five couples. Last September we had 432 people show up spanning 4 generations. I didn't have "Blame It On The Margarita's" for this years party. Couldn't wait a whole year to let all my friends know about "Howard Livingston & The Mile Marker 24 Band". So now all my friends know. These are the songs we've been looking for to complete our Beach Party. Next year will be awesome. MP3 players came at the right time. After next year I think we'll triple in size. If your a Beach Bum at heart you're going to flip over these songs. They're the perfect combination of Great Song Writing and writing about their life style. How can a song be any better when you write about what's in your heart and your heart writes the song? JUST BUY IT! Tim Ryan

  • Revisiting the Keys Through Your Music
    author: Dan S.

I just returned from a March visit to the Keys. Like the persona in your Island songs, I, too, hope to one day make the Keys my home. This CD especially is an Island tribute. The steel drums, your band's lively accompaniments, and your memorable lyrics and melodies stick in my mind long after playing the CD. Love the humor of "Where the Heck is Kokomo?" and the lilting and addictive refrain in "Leave This Island."

  • Never a disappointment
    author: Sarah

Loved the CD as much as the first one. Brings me back to Key West, even when I'm listening as I shovel snow. I absolutely can't wait to get the new one, Blame it on the Margaritas. I want to get back to the Keys.

  • My new favorite song is I like The Islands
    author: Cyndie Charcalla

When we were visiting Key West in March I heard songs playing in a store where I was shopping. I browsed slowly so I could hear the music, I finally asked what they were playing and they steered me to Meet Me In the Keys. It is a wonderful CD not a song on it I don't like. I especially like I like The Islands which drew me to it, but where Bananas grow is so cute. I want to live where bananas grow!! and where the heck is Kokomo??

  • THEY HAVE A NEW FAN!!!!!

We opened a restaurant called "Kokomo Bay" this past year. Heard about Howard Livingston's song "Where the heck is Kokomo?", so just had to have it. Every song on the CD is great, and we now know where Kokomo is, "It's all around you." Thanks Howard and Mile Marker 24! Can't wait to get down to Key West and.....

  • The easiest "easy listening" music I own!
    author: scott causey

I used to live in Key West thanks to the Navy. I never lost my love for that island. Meet ME IN THE KEYS instantly brings me back each time I play it. It's a great CD and a lot cheaper then a plane ticket.
