This is Monika Herzig's second CD where she gets to play her first love, the piano. Surrounded by great players, such as Steve Davis on drums, Jack Helsley and Frank Smith on bass, Tom Clark on saxes, and her husband Peter Kienle on guitar, Monika worked up a repertoire of straight ahead jazz. Some songs got a new harmonic and stylistic treatment, others are original compositions. The result is an energetic group with lots of chops and lots of fun just making music.
Bio:
Monika holds a Doctorate in Music Education and Jazz Studies from the IU School of Music. Currently she is on the Music Faculty of IUPUI in Indianapolis and IU Bloomington. In addition she is the organist for First United Methodist Church in Ellettsville, IN and teaches private piano and jazz piano lessons.
Monika has worked as a professional jazz pianist for more than 15 years, entertaining for numerous public and private events, such as weddings, receptions, parties, festivals, concerts and many more.
Her recordings have been praised by major publications such as JazzTimes, Jazziz Magazine and her composition "Let's Fool One" won a first prize from Down Beat Magazine.
