notes
Flute and drum... two of the most ancient sounds in the musical universe, come together in this innovative ensemble featuring Kate Steinbeck on flutes and Byron Hedgepeth on percussion. Together they create a blend of musical timbres, rhythmic variety, and groove that captivates audiences. This dynamic collaboration of sound features the modern wooden flute, alto and bass flutes, a variety of drums, Chinese gongs, Tibetan bowls, vibraphone and marimba.
Kate Steinbeck, following the path of her flute, has concentrated on the performance of chamber music throughout her career. Ms. Steinbeck was a Fulbright scholar to Belgium, and she holds degrees in flute performance from Baldwin-Wallace College and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her love of music and traveling Wanderlust has taken her to perform in concerts in Europe, Japan and across the U.S.
Byron Hedgepeth, enjoys performing on a wide array of percussion instruments while embracing classical, contemporary, jazz and world music. He earned degrees in music education from the University of Illinois and Mars Hill College and has distinguished himself as an innovative and dedicated teacher. Byron makes his home in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Interesting, different, and terrific duo of flute and percussion.
author: Mary CroghanI love this CD for the variety of musical styles and eras it presents, for its exquisite playing by Steinbeck and Hedgepeth, and for its presentation of the interesting flute/percussion combination.

author: JerrilynA wonderful work! I can listen to this over and over. The flute tone is gorgeous and spins spells of deep feeling. Percussion instrumentation is original, unexpected yet perfect.
