notes

After playing keyboards and singing in various hard rock acts in the early 90's, Andrea Hector burst on the Vancouver scene with her own material -- and bass guitar -- in 1995. The act? Liquid Amber.

Following the critically acclaimed release of "Breed", Liquid Amber's debut, Andrea received ample recognition and some major-label interest. However, a lineup change in 1998 brought LIQUID AMBER to a crossroads; Andrea decided to take the bull by the horns and start something totally different, groovy and true to her own Sabbath-meets-Bjork musical leanings. Hector, with Andrea on vocals, electronics and bass, was born.

Hector recorded a four-song demo at Profile, Tridon and Hush studios in Vancouver in the summer of 1999. Involved in the studio production of this demo were such notable Vancouver musicians as Jerry Wong (Damn the Diva), Brad McGiven (DSK, Tridon) and Sean Chikara (Red Sugar). Live performers now include Masterbeater Bina (Queasy) and go-go girl/ fire-eater K.K.

At her most recent gig at the Purple Onion in Vancouver in December '99, Hector drew one of the largest Sunday-night audiences of the club's history; she blew them away with her sexy and aggressive stage presence and considerable musical chops.

Hector is interested in exploring combinations of musical genres and unconventional mixing methods.

  • Everyone should try this cd!

This is a really imaginative, dark, interesting sequence of songs/music creating vivid, swirling soundscapes - interesting rhythms and harmonies; just over much too quickly! If you love music and originality, you HAVE to give this a try - I just bought it as one song was used underscoring a video on youtube; and I have not been at all disappointed: it's brilliant.

I love this CD! The sound is unique and the songs just draw you in. This is one of my favorite CDs now because each song has it’s own special sound that is wonderful. This is one of those CDs that you can listen to over and over again and not get tired of it. It’s excellent, absolutely excellent. The only thing is that I wish it was longer! This is a mind-numbingly good CD and if you’re trying to decide whether to buy it or not – buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

  • Addictive hooks, interesting, dark hints yet poppy. Great Album.

In a time I had given up completely on 'cold purchasing' cd's (buying cd's by artists I knew nothing about) because of one too many letdowns; I have had my faith restored by this disc. Hectors cd 'destructika' slyly envelopes many different spectrums of the music genres while managing to keep the listener hooked along for the journey, and what a wonderful journey it is. I'm not sure I really see the Bjork reference (and I hate to do comparisons, but here you go): to me, I would have to compare this cd as a liberated sneaker pimps with a dash of Lick and the Tori Amos style of beautiful writing with an Ani Difranco delivery all wrapped in the soul of Orgy. In short, it's a wonderful cd with much replay value that's not too heavy, but by no means cheesy. The writing makes me believe she has some things she's working out, but delivers it as if she's cool and collective. This cd sounds much like a band of musicians in a studio working for quite some time, not like it's reality of 2 women working independently of major label funds. Fantastic CD. I highly recommend it to everyone who is even remotely thinking about purchasing it. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was that the cd clocks in at just over 27 minutes, meaning it was over when I was really into it. I am happy that we have that 27 minute taste of what this band is up to, however.
