notes

Heather Brooks grew up climbing trees, reading books and listening to her parents' records in the small town of Moore Haven, Florida. In between headphone sessions with Steely Dan, Earth, Wind and Fire, Yes and Gino Vanelli she played piano for her church and fought with her two sisters. Moving to the 'big city' of Fort Myers when she was 14 of course, changed everything, and boys took up the time that ruminations on God and music didn't fill. After a brief spell of undedicated college enrollment, she waitressed and began writing particles of progressions on the piano about real-life stories and imagined endings. It was after a month long cross-country road trip with her best friend and a dense breakup that Heather decided to renig on her idea of music as an escape and pursue songwriting with the dedication and recklessness it deserves. There's always more to every story, but hopefully you're interested enough to learn the next chapter through the album. ((Ding...turn the page>>>))

  • Heather Brooks and thinkpiece ... we knew 'em when ...
    author: Bill Webb

Heather Brooks and thinkpiece have put together a real treat. She moves from soft ballads into funky, jazzy rock as easily as her fingers move around her keyboard, secure in the knowledge that her co-conspirators will be right there when she needs them. There are hints of Carly, the Eagles, Steely Dan and other influences (even a little Manilow), but the final product is far more tribute than imitation...proof that they weren't the only ones who could pull off those licks and make you remember them. My personal favorite: Hello Moon -- but only because I like the tone poem form, and loved the imagery. Apart from that, I have no favorite. From the soft, sweet All I Know -- almost too soft and sweet, but she pulls it off -- to the rollicking Regina, this is a collection by a craftsman who hasn't forgotten the purpose, nor the pleasure, of making music. It's going to be a while before I get tired of listening to this one.

  • HEATHER IS ON POINT WITH HER SMOOTH BLENDS AND HEART FELT WORDS
    author: ASHLEY GIACCHINO

I think it's a great way to get into the mind of a deep and very tallented girl, she has no fear to stay true to who she is as an artist and it has paid off in "turn it over". Her music will relax you and at the same time make you groove to. If your looking for a real musician you've found it in Heather Brooks:) **forever a fan** **Ash**
