Headless Household, formed in Santa Barbara in 1983, is an experiment in progress, mixing jazz, rock, lovely ditties, free improvisation, Americana, Europeana, and other musical ideas in a happy package.

notes

The band takes yet some new twists on its seventh and latest album, in which the digital paintboxing of Tom Lackner and Dick Dunlap blend in with some of the most jazz-minded tracks yet, with bold saxophonic contributions from alto player Dave Binney and tenor man Tom Buckner. Hyphenates are in order here, with encounters of the electro-acoustic, forward-reverse, inside-outside kind. Julie Christensen cameos on a couple of tunes ("babble" and "Sunday Go to Meetin' (Dream on Your Time)") and the guest list also includes cellist Claudia Kiser, violinist Sally Barr, pedal steel guitarist Bill Flores, trumpeter Jeff Kaiser, and bassists David Piltch and Jim Connolly (filling in for regular bassist Chris Symer). Blur Joan fits right into the Headless Household discography, by sounding connected to the confused "band sound," while also clearly otherwise...

Grown up kids keep it fun and bubblin, seriously un serious with serious jazz chops chopped up and down in a round sound throw down that dances with educaded abandon and still comes home on time. A quizicle operatic pawn shop of musical attitude aged like fine wine'os. Clasically un classifide, but you can still find it in the mellow pages.
