In the myriad of music that surrounds us, it isn’t often that you can find an album that will capture your attention for long enough to make you feel anything. Hazelwood Motel has created an album of dark honesty that will cradle you in a twelve song whirlwind of emotion.
Beginning with "Erased", the church-like organ leads into the layered vocals of Ed Vierda and Megan Pickerel and sets the mood for the record. This is followed by the quiet and nostalgic "How It Got This Way."
“Break Myself In Two” has a driving beat and guitar riff that will get stuck in you head for days. The loud guitars and drums of “The Ruiner” could be considered the darkest point of the album immediately flowing into the sad and haunting “Not Enough.”
The innocent feel of “Say What You Will” features Megan Pickerel’s beautifully fragile lead vocal and the final track “Sparkle In The Sun” has a quiet retrospect of solitude and desperation that makes the album complete.
This is the first record for the Seattle based band consisting of Ed Vierda, Megan Pickerel, and Patrick Smail.
