I began singing in church during grade school. I knew from that first moment I wanted to become a professional singer. I then started singing at carnivals, weddings, local TV shows, talent contests, became Miss Delaware Teen USA, and ended up becoming a national anthem singer for 10 years for the New York Mets.
When I was 16 years old, I gave my heart to the Lord during a Crusade in Wilmington, DE.
After that, I always kept a bible on my dashboard in my car, but never really opened it to read it much. (it was kinda there as protection). After high school I went to college in Maryland and earned my AA Degree in Dental Hygiene, and then immediately moved to New York City in hopes of supporting myself while becoming a famous recording artist. I ended up spending 11 years of my life there, never dreaming I’d be there that long.
While in New York City, I worked hard trying to make it in the music business, and what a tumultuous road it was. I experienced what the big city had to offer struggling artists like myself and grew so much as a vocalist. I would say that my life during that time was a roller coaster ride of emotions, accomplishments, disappointments and hardships. I attended a few different churches, attempting to get myself grounded. My plan failed each time.
I was obsessed with worldly fame and fortune and my controlling nature always got in the way of my spiritual growth. I also had many unhealthy personal relationships that acted as wedges between me and my relationship with God. I kept going down the same old path over and over again thinking I knew exactly what I was doing.
After a family tragedy in 2000, I decided to move out of the city.
I've now been living in Dutchess County, NY for the past 5 years and it's the healthiest move
I have ever made. I‘ve also been attending church for the past few years and have been attending faithfully.
It took a while, but I have finally let go of “MY singing career”. The Lord has been pruning me to start serving Him through a singing ministry. My spiritual growth has been amazing! It is only due to my willingness to be obedient and disciplined to Him. I have found a peace within myself that I never knew before. It is very challenging to maintain that peaceful place, and for me, it requires reading the Word and staying focused on it. (staying plugged in) If not, I can easily get caught in the web of anxiety ~ which can steal my joy in the blink of an eye.
My favorite scripture has always been:
Philippians 4:6
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything with prayer and supplication, make your
requests known to the Lord and the peace of the Lord which passes all understanding
will guard your hearts and minds forever.”
Today I am able to read this scripture and live it more than I was ever able to in the past.
