notes
Stars Fill The Sky is the debut album of soprano Elizabeth Harmetz. Its 11 songs delve into a traditonal treasury of American musical theater classics and showcases her theater roots.
"She can really sing, and it's nice to hear these songs treated with a generous voice with attention to the words, too." raves Rob Lester from Talking Broadway.com and further echos that "These are traditional, respectful renditions, no agenda to reinvent."
These songs are both new and old, spanning seven decades from 1927-1997. Some she's loved and sung for years, like Can’t Help Lovin’ that Man of Mine and So in Love, while she discovered others, like Everybody Wants to Do a Musical and My True Love very recently.
Harmetz brings her lyric qualities to songs My True Love from Phantom, Come Ready And See Me and Bill from Showboat and shows her vocal strength and versatility on So In Love from Kiss Me Kate and Old Maid from 110 In The Shade.
Her comedic timing is evident on the humorous send up of Everybody Wants To Do A Musical from the short-lived Nick & Nora.
Other songs include Simple Little Things, from 110 In The Shade, How Are Things In Glocca Morra, from musical Finnians Rainbow, How Could I Ever Know, from musical The Secret Garden, In His Eyes, from musical Jeckyll & Hyde.
Recorded with solo piano accompaniment by Mollye Otis.
