notes

Hardison, which is comprised of S Hardison (guitars, vocals), Adam Hicks (keys), Austin Hicks (bass), and Adonis Toro (percussion), is a Seattle-based outfit whose music is as personal as any emo band on the scene today, but universal in its appeal and rather than opt for the easy angst so trendy these days, Hardison provides genuine substance in its lyrics.

.....gravel roads are now all paved, I'll never walk again. My family I love, I want to see them again, but I can't afford the ride. My dream is real don't open my eyes, as I appear frozen in front of the line......

"No question that it's different." says Hardison. "We believe our audience is full of people who've experienced the same kinds of dreams and nightmares we write about."

For the listener, that translates to ringing acoustic guitars, jazz-inflected keyboard fills, and a rhythm section that responds in kind. For them, instrumental showboating is counterproductive; the song is their muse, and soaring above it all are the unvarnished vocals of Hardison. It's a unique instrument of communication, vulnerable and yet strong and true -- delivering songs of triumph and defeat, reflection and rebirth.

There are three Hardison albums currently available: "Dead Comedians," "Sun Bros." and last year's "Time and Cash." Currently Hardison and his bandmates are in the studio recording their fourth disc, set for release later in 2006.

  • four great musicians

Hardison is one of the best bands in the Seattle musick scene today. The combination of great musick and lyrics manages to engage the listener in a variety of emotions; from calm to chaotic, happy to sad and etc. The rollercoaster of daily problems that people have to deal with are captured in the different stories of the songs. It is amazing the way different styles of music are combined in one and yet they fit so well together. The musical creativity of this band is at its peak and they should keep going because I can not wait to listen to their next album.

  • Haunting & Cool
    author: Kyle Glanville

This is a perfect example of soulful acoustic pop. The music is tight and the storytelling is haunting. Somehow, the key changes just when you hope it will, and the melody seems to bow to the listener's desire. This is musical craftsmanship at its finest.

  • unlike anything else out there

With Time and Cash, his third cd, Hardison has deftly traversed from formidable singer/songwriter to a master sonical maestro - with his multi-talented band behind him -Time and Cash is a delicate fusion of poetic lyricism and rhapsodic melody and mood - like the best cds, each song is layered precisely, and are in and of themselves, their own little stories, their own intregral unique parts that fit within the whole - the whole is a haunting triumph of polyphonic proportions and requires a few listens to truly appreciate the depth of its beauty that this music is imbued with - this is one of my favorite cds i bought this year - one of those gems you share with a friend who end up saying, 'who is this?' after listening to it - with Time and Cash, Hardison and his talented band may not have to worry about that happening in their very near future -

  • different, deep, excellent, and worth spending some time with.

It took me about 3 listens to really grasp the sound of this record - raw and raspy but at the same time ethereal, smart, and dreamy. A friend of mine who knows the singer dropped the disk on me thinking it was more my speed than hers. I keep coming back to it - unable to match it to any other artist or genre that I have familiarity with, but I'm really digging it. I'm curious how other people would classify it.
