Classic pop folk/rock

notes

Hank Schlinger, a Dallas Texas native now living in Los Angeles, is a songwriter, guitarist, and singer. Hank's songs are blues influenced pop/rock, guitar-driven, songs with good melodies, catchy hooks and thoughtful lyrics, and his style has been comapred to Tom Petty, Neil Young, and Matthew Sweet.

Hank's debut CD, One More Invention (engineered and co-produced by the late Brian Fellows), garnered praise from a variety of music magazines. For example, VMAG in Massachusetts wrote, "I could easily hear each and every one of them on the radio. Great guitar sounds are everywhere, as is Hank's folkish harmonica. His voice is also better than most of today's sound-alike 'alternatives'... The arrangements are all tight and energetic, and the songs all seem to have a message or story to them." BAM Magazine (Los Angeles) wrote that, "The album is one to check out." According to Listen.com, "Schlinger plays entry-level pop music that excels in guitar hooks and catchy choruses. If pop like this were a Pinewood Derby racer, it would be the polished and hand painted one that wins but that everybody thinks had help."

Reviews from other musicians, writers, and record personnel include the following: "Hank's new CD, One More Invention, is a very well-produced CD full of serious AOR potential." "This is great stuff! I started playing it Tuesday night and haven't stopped yet ! Every song is fantastic" . . . Be a part of Schlingermania!" "Your CD was the first one that I listened to today all the way through. I was very impressed." "I felt like you are hitting a really cool 60's influenced pop vein." "One More Invention is a satisfying record made by a promising artist . . Hank Schlinger is a talented songwriter . . ." Both One More Invention and other songs of Hank's have been featured on KLOS' Local Licks program.

Totally great CD! A very distinctive voice, sound and fun to listen to. Something about the way Hank composes his songs just keep drawing you to listen to them more and more. Not simply music, but entertaining and you really get into the sounds! Not to mention great guitar work! How many times do we usually find one, maybe two tracts on an album we especially like....well I feel that way about all his songs! Looking forward to more CD's!

  • Great Album

One More Invention is a great album full of well-crafted songs. Schlinger has a style very reminiscent of Tom Petty and, at times, Bob Dylan. He can even rock like Zeppelin. The production has a vintage feel to it -- very tasteful. The album is chock full of thoughtful, clever lyrics and fantastic guitar. Definitely recommended.
