John Hanes is a San Francisco area music legend. His credits include art rock icons Chrome, Romeo Void, Engorged With Blood , Club Foot Orchestra, the Apes of God, and guitar heroes Henry Kaiser, Jorma Kaukonen and Ronnie Montrose. On this disc he has enlisted the aid of composer and guitar virtuoso Steve Kirk, best known for his work with Club Foot Orchestra, and bassists Myles Boisen, free-improv and art music icon, and Dave Jess, from the El Portal Dogs.
Our intent was to create improvised music with a through-composed feeling. Some of these songs follow a predetermined chord progression; others have no road map at all. All melodic content is improvised. This music was designed to be played in a small cafe - quiet and mood-generating. Close listening brings great rewards, while it can be approached as ambient music.
